Americans have all a lively faith in the perfectibility of man. They judge that the diffusion of knowledge must necessarily be advantageous, and the consequences of ignorance fatal.

They all consider society as a bodi in a state of improvement, humanity as a changing scene, in which nothing is, or ought to be, permenent. And they admit that what appears to them today to be good, may be superseded by something better tomorrow.

They live in a country marked by a vast diversity and constant change.Statistics alone about the United States, its geography, the economy, the culture and how people live and work fill volumes.The United States has long been known as a "melting pot" because many of its people are descended from settlers who came from all over the world to make their homes in the new land, which was sparsely populated by native Indian tribes. The first immigrant in American history came from England and the Netherlands.Attracted by reports of great economic opportunities and religious and political freedom, immigrants from many countries arrived to the United States in increasing numbers.
