Shi-Shi-Odoshi
The sound the Shi-Shi-Odoshi makes as it hits the rock was used to keep evil
spirits away and for the sound it makes in the silence of the Garden.
Koi Pond
The Koi Pond is part of a typical San-Sui (mountain and water) style garden.
The waterfall reflects the mountain, river and ocean scapes of the San Diego area. The
island in the pond is in the shape of a turtle, symbolizing longevity.
Oribe-doro
[stone lantern]
A stone lantern is located near the Exhibit House. This type of lantern is
the usual style that is found in a garden as a way to light the path.
Light of
Friendship
The bronze lantern called 'yukidoro' is a gift from the Boy Scouts and
Citizens of Yokohama
as a symbol of continued friendship between the two cities. The chrome sphere
inside the lantern contains the names of the people who helped to send the
gift to San Diego.
