VTP7 to VTP8:
Follow these simple steps to migrate from VTP7 to VTP8:
Uninstall VTP7 or any previous version (if you can't uninstall, re-install VTP7 and then try uninstalling VTP7 again).
Make sure that all 3rd party applications included in VTP7 have been uninstalled (they are usually removed when uninstalling VTP7). VTP8 will include recent builds of these 3rd party applications.
Run a registry fixer and registry defragmenter (if you have one)*.
Make sure your computer is virus and spyware free.
Defragment your hard drive.
If you have Windows Blinds, leave it installed
If you have 3rd party applications that were not included in VTP7, you can leave them installed. They will probably work fine with VTP8.
Download VTP8 (when it is released).
Create a new System Restore Point before installing VTP8 (Start => All Programs => Accessories => System Tools => System Restore).
Install VTP8 (installing in Safe Mode is always a good idea - follow any recommended steps to ensure proper installation of VTP8).
*alternately, you can reformat your hard drive and install VTP8 on a clean machine but this is not required.
In short, get your system in top shape before installing VTP8...
Good luck to everyone! I hope that this quick guide will help save a bit of time and avoid a few headaches.
