Welcome to Catia
This manual has been written with the intent of being a helpful introduction to Catia. I wrote it using pictures as the main focus, and words as an assistant. If I had to use a manual to aid in my 151m123b learning process, this is the way I would want it done.
As well as a Craftsman, Catia allows you to be part Artist. You can easily make a block shape and remove what doesn't look like your part. This is the same thing a carver does. Your only limitation in Catia is your imagination.
The best way to approach Catia is to remember that it is a "Windows" based program. Although the icons may be different, a "right click" of the mouse brings you to the same basic options as Windows.CUT, PASTE, COPY, DELETE.this I'm sure you will find useful. If you put your cursor onto an icon, it will tell you what it is in a descriptive manner.
Catia is neither completely user friendly, nor is altogether difficult. It is very user tolerant. A word of advice is to go slowly. In short order you will be comfortable with the basic commands, and with this will come the need for speed. Just like driving, speed kills. Take the time to read every "pop-up" that Catia generates as you draw. Wildly hitting the OK button every time without reading the message WILL increase your speed, but can stop you in your tracks with an unresolved constraint needing updating in a massive assembly. If you pay attention to everything that is going on in the Catia Environment, you will be fine.
I hope this manual is useful. In no time you will be past where I ended, into unknown territory. As you learn new things, share them with someone else.
Enjoy.
Jerry.
