Berlin Summerschool

Berlin, 31st August -7th September 2007

Genetic Neuroimaging

The Berlin Summerschool on the science of psychiatry, now in the seventh year of its existence, will this year focus on Genetic Neuroimaging. This session of the Summerschool is part of IMAGEN, an integrated project on "Reinforcement-related behavior in normal brain function and psychopathology", supported by the European Union's, Sixth Framework Program. It will take place in Berlin from August 31st to September 7th 2007 and will be organized as before by the Department of Psychiatry and Psychotherapy, Campus Charité Mitte, Charité - Universitätsmedizin Berlin and the Berlin Brandenburg Academy of Sciences.

The Summerschool aims to provide information and inculcate professional skills with emphasis on those useful in initiating and conducting research in psychiatry. Among the topics which will be addressed are methods of genetic neuroimaging, but also presentation skills and issues relevant to the application of ethical ideas in psychiatric research and practice. Candidates should be in the mid or at the end of their postgraduate training in psychiatry.

Participants are invited to present their research as a poster or oral presentation in a workshop at the 6th Charité Conference on Emotional Neuroscience, which starts August 31st and opens the Sumemrschool (https://www.charite.de/psychiatrie/aktuelles.html).

The Summerschool will be conducted in English. Applications should be accompanied by (i) a certificate of proficiency in English, (ii) a letter of recommendation from the head of the institution in which the postgraduate training is taking place, or from the president of the national psychiatric society, (iii) a brief curriculum vitae with a copy of own publications where possible, and (iv) a letter by the candidate including a statement about his/her research interests. Successful candidates will be offered travel and accommodation support.

Applications should be sent to Prof. Dr. A. Heinz (Head) via PD Dr. A. Ströhle, Department of Psychiatry and Psychotherapy, Campus Charité Mitte, Charité Universitätsmedizin Berlin, Schumannstr. 20/21, 10117 Berlin, Germany, Phone: +49 (30) 450 517034. Once the mailed application is sent, the candidate should send a copy of the letter of application by e-mail to: [email protected]

Deadline for application is May 31st 2007.

6th Charité Conference on Psychiatric Research:

Emotional Neuroscience 2007

Dear colleagues,
We cordially invite you to our 6th Charité Conference on Psychiatric Research:
Emotional Neuroscience. The current meeting will focus on in vitro and in vivo
studies of phasic and tonic dopaminergic neurotransmission and their respective role
in the processing of salient stimuli. We will also discuss models of dysfunctional
interaction between dopaminergic and glutamatergic neurotransmission in
schizophrenia and Parkinson's disease.

We are very happy that Profs. Grace, Laruelle and Frank will present their current
findings at our conference. They are international leading experts in the field of
dopaminergic neurotransmission, neural computation and cognition. Besides the
lectures we will offer workshops for research groups to present their findings. This
is a very good opportunity for young investigators to discuss current research
issues and methodological questions.

We invite you to submit abstracts until August 1st, which will be selected for oral
presentation within workshops or for poster presentation. Please note that any
attendee must enroll with his or her full name and current affiliation.

We hope that our conference will stimulate your interest and we look forward to

seeing you here in Berlin.
