Typical house from my own country

education

Typical house from my own country

The aims of this assignment are:

That students gain an insight and understanding of the diversity within the class.

That the students learn to use and gain basic competencies in Sketch up and Power Point

That the students gain basic presentation skills.

Method:

Each student prepares a plan and 'model' - using Sketc 939d311j h Up - of a typical single family house from their own country - to be done on an individual basis.

Each student will make a Power Point presentation of their plan, model and any photographs of their family / house for the rest of the class.

Activities:

  • "Draw" your family. Say what they do (a photograph would be better)
  • Draw a plan of where you live with your family. Name all the rooms and what they are used for - what you do there, how much time you spend there. Try to define the most important dimensions - size of rooms etc.
  • Remember the area around the house / apartment.
  • Remember the "orientation" of the house -  the direction it is built (in relation to compass).
  • Define the building / construction system - materials and how it was built.
  • Can you say why it was built in the way that it was built.
  • Remember also to say/draw something about the technical installations (building services) in your house - is there a heating/cooling system? - how does it work? What about wastewater - where do you discharge it (i.e. what do you do with the wastewater)? What about water supply? Where does the water come from? How do you produce hot water?
  • Can you think of other building services to include in your description?
  • Can you say why you are using the type of building services you have described?
  • You can also tell about who owns the house - how people buy houses in your country.

Aspects to consider

Most countries have rules / regulations / guidelines about how houses are designed.

Most of these rules are based on experience and "common sense".

What is "common-sense" in one country may not be common sense in another country.

Presentation

Each student will make a Power Point presentation of their plan, model and any photographs of their family / house for the rest of the class. The presentation should not last more than 15 minutes.

In connection with the presentation, the assignment is to be handed in to your lecturers in building design - as a printout from power point and in digital format. Your lecturers will tell you on what media they would like to receive the file copy.

Words you might use.
