To select several units simultaneously, hold down the mouse button and draw a rectangle around the units you want to select.
Double-click one unit to select all units of the same type that are currently visible on the screen. For example, dou 646j91g ble-click an arrow shooter to select all the arrow shooters.
You can also combine several units to form a group. Select the units you want and assign the group a number by pressing <CTRL> and a digit. Press the same digit once again to activate the group.
Creating new units (civilian and military)
Your starting place is always your headquarters. From there you can generate the basic units that you’ll need to build structures and gather food and raw materials.
Click your headquarters, select the unit you want, and continue to click this unit until you’ve produced the quantity you need.
Building units always costs you a certain amount of food and/or other raw materials. The small icon next to the button of a person shows you how much of your provisions are required.
Building specific military structures allow you to generate additional military units.
As you increase the number of tireless laborers and brave warriors, you also take on certain additional responsibilities. You now have to build a corresponding number of houses to shelter your units while also securing the necessary supply of food.
Click a laborer and then click either Build structure or Build expanded structure. Then click the structure to be built, followed by the appropriate location on the map or screen.
You can’t just build any structure whenever you choose. Some structures require that you meet certain conditions before you can build them.
Note: If the transparent structure on the screen turns red, you need to look for an alternate location to build it on. When it turns green, you’ve found a suitable site.
Always keep a sharp lookout and never let your enemies out of your sight!
You should have no problems, however, thanks to your excellent spies. Eagle-eyed and light-footed, they scout your surroundings and obtain a lot of information about distant sources of raw materials and the movements of enemy troops.
First click a unit, then right-click the location on the map that you want to move it to.
Note: Don’t send your chief (band leader, commander, comandante) on a scouting mission because he’s much too important. Not only does the morale of the troops depend on his well-being, but replacing him is a long and expensive process.
Click a military unit or select several units with the mouse pointer. Then right-click the enemy units or structures that you want to attack.
Note: The units always act according to the fighting stance you’ve selected.
Once you consider yourself to be armed for the coming battle, you have four stances from which to meet your foe. After selecting one or more units, choose one of the following options from the menu bar: Act aggressively, Act defensively, Hold ground or Passive.
Select a unit or group of units and click the appropriate button in the menu window.
Act aggressively: These units will go to any lengths to get what they want. Within their range of vision, they don’t give up until they’ve destroyed the enemy, the unit or the structure. They pursue enemy units relentlessly.
Act defensively: Units with a defensive stance attack the enemies within their range of vision but chase them only for a short distance.
Hold ground: These units are simply set on holding their ground. They attack enemy units that come within their range of vision only if they don't have to leave their position.
Passive: Passive units are exactly what their name implies. They don’t move and they don’t attack even if someone else attacks them.
Within each people, a specific unit is responsible for gathering raw materials (warriors, male settlers, field workers and outlaws). Click the appropriate unit, then right-click the raw material to be gathered in order to command your unit to chop wood or prospect for gold.
Note: You can store wood and gold in your headquarters, but you’ll save yourself time by building a warehouse near the source of raw materials.
Note the following when storing gold: Gold is not available to you as a resource until you’ve brought it to your headquarters. If you build a gold warehouse near the gold mine, your units won’t have to carry the gold all the way to your headquarters but can store it in the warehouse.
If you want to use the gold, however, you must transport it to your headquarters! Each people has its own method for transporting gold. Native Americans use a travois, Mexicans use a flat-bed wagon, settlers use covered wagons and outlaws use transport wagons. Build a means of transport using the wood processing method suited to your people. When your transport wagon is finished, left-click the wagon to select it and then right-click the gold warehouse that you want your transporters to empty. Your wagon now automatically travels back and forth between the warehouse and your headquarters until the gold warehouse is completely empty.
But be careful: Gold transports are sometimes ambushed!
In the wild and wooly West, there are various ways to get horses:
Raising horses
Building a corral (Native Americans and Outlaws), hacienda (Mexicans) or ranch (Settlers) will allow you to produce horses. Click the corral and then click the Horses button to produce a horse (provided you have the necessary amount of food to 'pay' for it).
Note: Although the horses you produce don’t appear on the screen, you’ll notice that the number next to the horse icon at the top of the screen is increased. You can now produce mounted units in any production structure.
Capturing horses
A certain number of wild horses are scattered over the map. Move a unit that can ride to the location of the horses, then right-click a wild horse to place the unit in the saddle. Dismount the unit (by clicking the dismount button) and repeat the procedure until all the horses have been captured. This will save you a lot of food that you would otherwise have to use to produce the horses yourself.
Note: If you put the captured horses in a corral, you’ll see that the number of available horses at the top of the screen is increased accordingly. This doesn’t happen if you leave the horses out in the open. To put a selected riderless horse in a corral, simply right-click the corral.
Stealing horses
All you have to do is shoot a mounted enemy unit from their horses. To do so, select one of your units that can ride and right-click the horse to put your unit in the saddle. Naturally, you can use the same method to steal a riderless horse from your enemy.
