Past Tense Continuous
Affirmative : S + was/were + Ving
e.g. : They were talking about me when the train arrived.
Interrogative : Was/were + S+ Ving
e.g. : Was I thinking of leaving my job ?
Negative : S+ was/were + not + Ving
e.g. : I wasn’t sleeping when the phone rang .
It is used to express :
An action that was going at a certain moment in the past .
Adverb : this time yesterday , yesterday , last week/month/year , to…ago
e.g. : I was reading a book this time yesterday.
I was watching TV at 7 o’clock last Monday.
When + S + V2
e.g. : I was reading a book when he came home .
I was sleeping when the phone rang .
While + S + was/were + Ving = simultaneous action
e.g. : I was working hard while he was watching TV .
