Affirmative: S + V_{2 / ed}

e.g. : I met him last week .

Interrogative : Did + S + V₁

e.g Did he arrived ?

Negative : S + did + not + V₁

e.g. : I didn’t use to like long walks .

It is used to express :

• An action that was finished in the past without any connection to the present .
• Adverbs of time :

o       last week/month/year/summer/January etc.

o       2 days ago/2 h ago etc.

o       a date
