Health Expo/Mini Health Expo
This revolutionary program has met with phenomenal success. Here is the plan for the full Health Expo. Eight exhibits surround the evangelism auditorium or preaching site. Prior to the preaching 12112s1823m service, up to one hour is given to health screening and lectures in the exhibits. The exhibits include panels with colorful pictures on health. The exhibit coordinators give brief talks, demonstrations, enter into dialogue with visitors, conduct health testing, and answer questions. An atmosphere of friendship and intense interest has been developed. There is a relaxed feeling that 'I am attending the Total Health Programs' without the stigma some attach to attending a strictly religious meeting.
After the exhibits close, the people are invited to move to the auditorium for a health presentation from the platform. The program also features special music and the family feature; then the Bible message is presented.
We can't always conduct the complete Health Expo, consequently, the Mini Health Expo is basically evangelistic meetings without the eight health exhibits. Screening will be done prior to the meeting in the auditorium with illustrated health features from the platform each night. With Microsoft Access and a laptop computer and printer, the team can conduct the health age analysis program with lifestyle counseling from the computer printouts. There is also a self-scoring health assessment available if computers are not being used.
Seventh-day
Adventists have always believed in medical ministry. "It's the right arm of the message" has been
repeated, regardless of the health-related activity implied. Thus developed in
Health ministry seems to be an essential ingredient of soul winning - health + ministry. This clearly infers a close physician-minister relationship. Please note carefully the blueprint: "It is the divine plan that we shall work as the disciples worked. Physical healing is bound up with the gospel commission. In the work of the gospel, teaching and healing are never to be separated." The Ministry of Healing, page 141.
The great success of blended ministry in contemporary Adventist evangelism has been beautifully illustrated in the global impact of Health Expo evangelism. The Health Expo Lifestyle Programs portray in action-teaching centers the eight dimensions of health spoken of in The Ministry of Healing, page 127, in the chapter, "The Physician, an Educator."
SETTING THE ATMOSPHERE
For the Mini Health Expo, single panels for each of the NEWSTART® letters could be displayed about the auditorium, if there is room.
If at all possible, there should be a physician as part of the team. The physician could supervise the health screening and explain the results, especially any abnormal levels. The physician could assist in the platform presentations with instructions that the lecture will be limited to 20 minutes maximum. Assistance should be provided to assure that the presentations are illustrated and animated.

The program will be most effective if follow-up classes can be offered in Nutrition, Hydrotherapy, Exercise, Stress Management, Weight Control, Stop Smoking, and Bible study. Registration sheets or cards should be available during the Expo and the classes should be scheduled promptly after the close of the Expo.
Build awareness of the church in the community.
Educate the public on the personal responsibility of health maintenance, offering entertaining, convincing, and practical information on how to preserve health and prevent disease.
Involve community health professionals and organizations to assist with the health screening so that we can do a better job of networking with these individuals for additional services.
Secure names and addresses for future evangelistic outreach programs to be offered in the community and advertise for follow-up programs.
Demonstrate a sincere, Christian interest in the total needs of all who attend, including physical, mental, spiritual, and social. Develop friendships with these people.
Increase church membership, ultimately through continued contact and follow-up programs.
Contact government officials to obtain permission to conduct health screening. Show the equipment and supplies and provide assurance of careful sterile techniques.
Contact health professionals in the church or community who could assist with health screening, including physicians, dentists, health educators, nurses, nutritionists, or other medical professionals.
Free handouts should be carefully planned and translated (English copy would be provided) into the local language so that a sufficient quantity may be printed, purchased, and effectively distributed. Placing piles of handouts on tables for pickup is wasteful and costly. The handouts should be given individually at the end of the presentations by the exhibit personnel. Application forms for future health activities should be prominently featured and distributed at the exhibits.
Visit schools to inform and enlist cooperation of the children and promote the poster competition.

Visit health agencies and organizations to inform and enlist their participation and cooperation. If possible, assist in obtaining translators for the English speaking team members.
Computer Screening: Health Age Profile - This analysis is based on a profile completed by each individual. The information is input into the computer program which will predict longevity based on lifestyle.
Stress Profile - Measures how well stress is handled compared with national norms. Analysis is completed by guests.
Cholesterol: Small battery-operated device that analyzes a small amount of blood and gives digital read-out for cholesterol levels.
Glucose: A drop of blood from a finger stick is placed on a Chemstrip for visual reading of blood sugar levels.
Blood Pressure: Several sphygmomanometers (blood pressure cuffs) and stethoscopes could be used to check blood pressures. Provide referrals for abnormal levels.
Weight & Height: Scales and height measuring device. This is necessary information for the health age profile.
Vision: Use an eye chart (as a screening tool only) for checking vision. An E chart should be used in lieu of the regular letter chart.
Skin-fold: A device is available to measure skin fold. This gives guests an idea about their percentage of body fat.
Stress Dots: Small dots that can be purchased which indicate a change in body temperature. This is a good way to discuss relaxation techniques with the guests.
PLATFORM PRESENTATIONS
The following are suggestions for platform presentations during the health segment of the meetings:
Air - Breathing and posture demonstrations can be done by illustrations showing poor posture and how to achieve good posture. The posture exercise changes the appearance from the shape of a questions mark (?) to that of an exclamation mark (!). The audience is invited to participate in deep breathing exercises and practicing correct posture. Suggested visuals: Use a water hose and show how the flow of water stops when the hose is crimped; use a gallon jar and place a

candle inside to show what happens to the flame when the jar is sealed (represents what happens to the oxygen in a tightly closed room).
Water - Demonstration of water treatments in home health care (hot and cold,, liquid, steam, and ice). Local people participate in giving and receiving treatments on platform. Demonstrate trying to wash a large pan of dishes in a cup of water. Some treatments to demonstrate could be fomentations or cold mitten friction.
Temperance Demonstrate how the "killers at large" (tobacco, alcohol, caffeine, and other drugs) are affecting the body and destroying health. Use the visuals like Smoky Sue or the large inflatable cigarettes to demonstrate this. Also use graphics on the overhead to show statistics about deaths. Use B-B's in a bottle and pour out slowly to show how many people die due to drugs or alcohol related accidents.
Exercise Show how heart health is preserved and long life promoted through wisely planned exercise. Have someone demonstrate exercise on the platform, check the resting heart rate and then keep checking the heart rate as the exercise continues. If possible attach a speaker to project the sound of the heart beating. Use any visuals that help to inspire the audience to start moving.
Sunlight - Discuss the sun's good and harmful properties. Demonstrate the effects of the sun on the immune system, if possible with the use of overheads or large signs. Show phagocytosis as illustrated on the sunlight panel.

In preparing exhibits, handouts, or your health
talks, spiritual principles can be interwoven with the eight natural
remedies. Here are some suggestions for
blending health and Bible themes:
Nutrition The Word of God, essential for life and growth.
Exercise Faith, basis of belief in God's creating and sustaining power.
Water Forgiveness, cleansing from sin through Christ.
Sunlight Growth of God's love, Sun, or Righteousness.
Temperance Victorious living based on balanced, total health.
Air Power of prayer, through the work of the Holy Spirit.
Rest Sabbath, entering into God's rest; experience joy and health.
Trust in God Fellowship with God and His church, fruition of faith.
The following are some guidelines for these presentations from the platform:
These are to be clear, simple, entertaining, and brief - not more than 15 minutes each. Try to cover only one topic each presentation.
Demonstrate what to do and how to do it so that the audience can understand clearly how to apply this to their daily life.
Practice the demonstrations or skits ahead so that there is no confusion or waste of time during the meetings.
Remember this is an illustrated talk, not a health lecture.
Posters depicting health-related topics prepared by the children can be an excellent teaching tool. The parents' receptivity is enhanced as they share their children's enthusiasm for what they are learning.
Try to always have a visual or audio aid with each presentation. Use drama, overhead projector, or demonstrations. These make the topic more interesting and will be
easier for the audience to remember what was said. Be creative. The ideas listed are only suggestions.
