A Bonsai-Guide on How to Train

0. Be prepared.
Know your topic (or know how to fake it well). Make sure you have a logical flow, and evaluate the time needed 11411l1113l for each session. Adapt to your audience and what they know. Know what role you have to play. (Is it a presentation? A training? A discussion?)

1. Be yourself.
If you are funny, be it. If you are not, don't try (smiling is enough). The easiest is to make fun of yourself (but not too much...).

2. You can only leave one first impression.
The first few minutes of a training are crucial - they set the atmosphere.

3. Bang!!! - Get the audience's attention
Have an Ice-Breaker (we call it a Bang!!!, e.g. song, exercise or whatever to get people's attention). However, at «Prep Do-It» you should try not to scare your Newies away. During the first trainings you should rather give people a chance to get to know each other. For example you might start with having everybody say something about themselves (most embarrassing situation; if they could be a drink, what would it be, etc.).

4. Don't start in the middle:
Have an introduction with exchange of names, expectations of participants, etc. Name topic & content of training. Note: For the «Prep Do-It» some of that (names, expectations) should be done only in the first training, so this goes for Big Picture only.

5. Be enthusiastic.
If you don't care about your topic, who should? (And don't forget to smile.)

6. Listen to your audience
Watch out for people who don't seem to understand or who fall asleep. Be flexible: adapt to participants' experience and interest. Don't stick to what you prepared.

7. Involve your audience
Confucius said "I hear and I forget, I do and I remember."

8. Have a Bang!!! every 30 minutes
You need to catch the attention of people regularly. Make sure people are still with you. However, don't abuse of ice-breakers (people might find it too childish).

9. Summarize Session
Repetition doesn't hurt, it just drives home the main points

10. Close well!!!
Give the audience something to go away with that will stick in their minds.

If you have any questions, don't hesitate to call any NTT member!
