REHABILITATION TREATMENT IN ANKYLOSING SPONDYLITIS
Introduction
Ankylosing Spondilitis is prototype of the seronegative Spondyloarthropathies, a chronic inflammatory disease of unknown cause effecti 858b18i ng primarily axial skeleton. The disease is frequent in men and is associated with HLA-B27 haplotype. It involves the Spine and peripheral joints of hands and feet and also presents with extra-articular manifestations like uvitis, pulmonary fibrosis, and nodules.
Objective
The objective of my research was to prove the fact that rehabilitation treatment is benifecial in treatment of AS and it controls pain stiffness with modifying the articular abnormalities. It also helps to maintain the body contracture.
Material and Methods
I have carried out a prospective study on a group of
20 patients diagnosed with ankylosing spondylitis, defined according to the
The subjects of the group were randomly selected from
the patients of the
Clinical variables: the course of the disease
Erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR)
Chest expansion
Global evaluation (BASDAI) - index of the course of the disease
Conclusion
Physical and medical rehabilitation treatment has a beneficial effect on a patient with AS on both the disease activity and the functional status
The greatest impact was recorded with the BASDAI index which fell from a mean value 38,8 (Day 0) to 31 (Day 18).
Clearly the treatment was most effective in the early stages of the disease, than in the later stages
