Following what seems to be a recent trend of Rock bands releasing EP-length CDs to capitalize on their success(Godsmack, matchbox twenty, 3 Doors Down), Maroon 5 has recently released "1.22.03.Acoustic," a solid mix of 5 acoustic versions of their original songs, an acoustic cover of The Beatles' "If I Fell," and a hilarious electric cover of AC/DC's "Highway to Hell."

After a few listens, the only original Maroon 5 song on the CD that I'm still not crazy about is "This Love." To me, the acoustic verion just loses a little bit too much of its' catchyness and funky flavor unplugged. On the other hand "Sunday Morning" and "The Sun" are arguably better than the original studio versions. If you like the original versions of "Harder to Breathe" and "She Will Be Loved," you'll undoubtedly enjoy the versions included on 1.22.03. The only real miss on the entire CD is "If I Fell," which, in my opinion, is terrible. Adam Levine does the song solo and is just incredibly boring. The vocals to "Highway to Hell" are done by drummer Ryan Dusick, and, from what I can tell--is somewhat of a joke. The band definitely rocks out on this track, but there is definitely a reason why Dusick is on the drum set instead of being the lead singer. The percussionist absolutely takes off shouting and screaming from the first word of the song and doesn't stop until the end.

Overall, if you like Maroon 5 already, pick this CD up. Odds are you won't be disappointed. If you are a person that tends to like acoustic recordings of your favorite bands' hit songs--this is a must have.

Having only heard five of the songs from "Songs about Jane", I was unaware of a few of the songs. On those I had no expectations, but I did know how the three hits went, and they were all very well represented on this live album. The CD opens with "Harder To Breathe" and does so very nicely. The vocals start out too weak, as it is a very powerful song and Adam sings it very well in the original. Towards the end he does almost gain the momentum that the original has. It is hard being acoustic to put as much power in it, and I think they succeeded, with all of the songs, in that aspect. I was very pleased with how they performed "Harder To Breathe". The Beatles cover is okay, although no where near as good as the original version. The last track sounds very unlike Maroon 5, but sounds good nonetheless. For only being $7-10, depending on where you get it, if you are a Maroon 5 fanboy/girl, or if you just appreciate good variations on good music, get this CD.

I really enjoy this CD. I could have done without the covers, as I don't enjoy those particular songs, but that is my only complaint! If you are concerned about how Adam sounds live . . .fear not . . . he and the rest of the guys do a great job on this.
