Alternative Metal is an offshoot of Heavy Metal which is characterized by a combination of hip hop, hardcore punk, and heavy metal combined with other genres. Alternative metal's early bands were Jane's Addiction, Soundgarden, Sto 515s1818f ne Temple Pilots, Alice in Chains, and Living Colour among others and incorporated blues, jazz, funk, and hardcore in varying degrees. Faith No More, the Sonic Youth, Fishbone, and Seattle's pre grunge bands Melvins, Mudhoney, Tad and Mother Love Bone were early pioneers in the genre.

Incubus heavily relied on funk and hardcore elements in their music. Soundgarden incorporated elements of the blues into their brand of alternative rock wooing fans and critics alike. Alice in Chains combined layered heavy riff driven songs combined with haunting melodies and dark lyrics. Nine Inch Nails combined the industrial movement with heavy metal guitars to forge a very popular direction in alternative metal. Jane's Addiction favored progressive metal flavoring their riffs with punk infusions of jangling infectious guitars.

Korn's debut album took alternative metal in a new direction spawning the nu metal movement. Combining droning seven string guitar riffs and Rap beats and vocals with heavily sampled angst ridden tunes. Other artists like Papa Roach, Linkin Park, Slipknot and Limp Bizkit revolutionized the nu metal movement enveloping most of the alternative metal movement in the process.

Silver Dragon Records presents recording artist Lazarus X and solo album Weapon of Love. Lazarus X's determined honest rock combined with haunting and soulful melodies struck a chord with many rock music fans. Some fans received a preview of the publicity photos and album at a rooftop listening party a day before it is released and the response was amazing. Lazarus X has a long and interesting history in the local Houston scene. His interview was well received by fans and is available here. Part 1 Part 2 - The strong vocal harmonies and dark ominous guitars layered with very powerful and accessible melodies and energetic bursts of Laz's 7 string make for a wild and interesting ride.
