It all started
out really innocent, Dutch brothers Bobby and Martin Boer had
been experimenting with music for years
in a little bedroom. But then in 1990 things really started to happen for them,
the single "Can't Help Myself" was picked up by Dutch
radiostations and became an international hit.
The composing brothers Bobby
and Martin appointed rapper
Da Smooth Baron MC and the singers Peggy "The Duchess"
and
Gale Robinson to form the 2 Brothers on the 4th Floor stage-act.
The next single "Turn Da Music" was somewhat less successful but really helped spreading the name 2 Brothers on the 4th Floor.
After these two singles the project was put on a halt. Martin moved into a new professional studio and started making remixes under the name Dancability Productions. He made remixes for acts like Becky Bell and Twenty 4 Seven, he also made the Veronica Megamix 1993 for Veronica Radio. In the meanwhile Bobby was busy designing record-covers and CD-inlays.
In 1994 they
decided to revive the 2 Brothers on the 4th Floor-project.
Bobby joined Martin in his studio and after a while the two
presented "Never Alone". This single
was the first to be launched with rapper D-Rock (real name is Renee
Philips) and singer Des'Ray (real name is Desirée Claudette Manders).
The renewed style and concept got out real fine. "Never Alone" topped the charts for weeks and even got a golden status. The consecutive single was called "Dreams", it went right up to the number 1 position, and the next single "Let me be Free" got a long stay in the national top ten. In July 1994 the album "Dreams" hit the shops, it stood in the national album charts for weeks and got very positive reviews.
In 1995 and
1996 the 2 Brothers on the 4th Floor even widened their success with the
singles "Fly (Trough The Starry Night)",
"Come Take My Hand" and "Fairytales". These
singles really topped the charts in various European countries.
In the end of 1996
they released a single called "There's a Key"
and their second album called "2".
The next single to be released was "One Day" and it's an R&B track and not the usual happy hardcore/eurodance style. Also next single "I'm Thinkin' of U" was more like an an uptempo R&B track rather than their usual style.
In March, 1998 2 Brothers on the 4th Floor released the single entitled "Do U Know", and is a mid to low tempo pop track. Then in the beginning of fall 1998 the single "The Sun Will Be Shining" ' was released and it contained remixes by Mark van Dale & Enrico, Dance Therapy and the Dub Foundation. It also contained a bonus CD-rom part with the video of "The Sun Will Be Shining" and "The Making Of".
On February 5th,
1999 called the single "Heaven Is Here" was released and with
that song they step into the same progressive musicstyle as for example Sash!. Later that
year, on October 29th, the single "Living In Cyberspace"
was released and it's based on Trans-X hit "Living on
Video".
On June 16th, 2000 the single "Wonderful Feeling" was released and it's based on the song "Who Will Buy".
On June 29th, 2001 the single "Stand Up And Live" was released.
2002-present
The 3rd album was never released because of problems with the recordcompanies and other things.
At the moment 2BOT4F
doesn't seem to exist anymore and it's possible they split up. Des'Ray
has started a
solocareer and was involved in a project called Diva's of Dance in the
summer of 2002. D-Rock is still working
with the band E-Life and the whereabouts of Bobby and Martin
Boer are currently unknown.
The 2 Brothers On The 4th Floor are going to
release finally a best of album and dvd. The release is going to be in November
