In Lithuania and in countries all over
the world democracy works as power to govern and to be governed. Lithuania
is young democracy but it has ground rules without witch it would not be real
and could not work. Democracy is a system in which sovereignty belongs to the
nation. There are some ground rules, which are necessary to warrant existence
of democracy and sovereignty of the nation. The principal canons 111x234b could be the
news media, the constitution, free and fair elections.
The first and very important pillar of
democracy is swimmingly working news media. One of the most useful canons,
which fate fluency of governing is communication, because modern democracies cannot
dispense without communication between government and nation. In Lithuania, the
most popular and dominant news media's forms are radio and television,
newspapers, magazines and the internet. By
these forms of news media can vouch its main functions: to inform and educate. Information is useful to orient people about
the main events and government's decisions. When people get information, they
can make right decisions. One of the most important part
of democratic elections is poll. All the voters . Furthermore,
education capacitates democracy's successful work and news media's role in
education is well marked. It is certainly known, that to make intelligent
decisions human has to be educated, that means he have to get fair and
professional information timely. In addition,
healthy democratic society can not manage without news media.
The second, not less important pillar of
democracy is constitution. Constitution is a set of rules and norms assembled
in one codified or not single document. Lithuania, as all democratic
countries have the constitution - the supreme law. Supreme law is the main constitution's
importance, because it secures and guarantees basic human rights and defines the
authority of the national government. In Lithuania, constitution's amendment
is possible by assent of the legislature and citizens, so the constitution can
to conform to exiting conditions in the country. As a result, constitution
consolidates ground laws and establishes authority of the nation.
The third but still important pillar of
democracy in Lithuania
is free and fair elections. In Lithuania,
there are periodic elections - every 4 years for parliament and every 5 years
for president. Electorate is the majority of the nation - all the people who
are older than 18, despite their gender, income or caliber. It is very
important that majority elects the government, because in that way the
government can make welfare to the biggest number of people in the country. Moreover,
in democratic elections all the candidates have the freedom of speech, meetings
and movement, so the electorate can choose the most suitable candidate. What is
more, the poll must be fair and free. That means, all the voters can vote by
their opinion, there must be more than one party, because without alternative
choices elections can not be democratic. Finally, for all the voters must be
warranted confidentiality. In summary, democratic elections must be fair and
free and without this, any democracy could not work.
In
conclusion, Lithuania
is democratic country, where sovereignty belongs to the nation. Democracy
secures freedom of decision-making, individuality and welfare for the majority.
