Weekly Political Report

Commission has presented this week its report on
As this file was handled by the anti - corruption prosecutors (DNA) it can be said that this institution has tried until the last days prior to the EU report to impose the image of its good perform 13313w2218n ances. As for the report:
The facts: EU
Commission' report signaled The Superior
Counsel of Magistrates (CSM), the Parliament and the Government were
mentioned mostly in a negative context. CSM has been
criticized for being slow in coming to management and disciplinary
decisions and also for giving often inconsequential sanctions. The parliament
was criticized for politisating the anti-corruption fight, while the
Cabinet was advised to minimize the use of government ordinances procedure.
EU
Commission's report stated that the monitoring process will continue for
another year. The interpretation: The report
highlighted the same ideas supported in previous Traian Basescu's
interventions. However the
report was surprisingly speculated politically at a very low level. Traian
Basescu did not make any public comment on the Report, even though he took
part (after the public presentation of the EU Report) at a meeting of CSM. The subject
visibility faded in the last days, but the report will continue to be
debated by analysts and politicians as a new important event will take
place soon. In August
the Justice Minister will have to announce if whether Daniel Morar, leader
of anti-corruption prosecutors, will be nominated or not for a new mandate.
The stake is extremely high, considering that from this position can be
influenced a more active or a slower evolution of specific corruption cases
against top politicians.
In the same time, new discussions about the parliamentary elections took place.
Uninominal system of voting remains on the public agenda

Committee on the Electoral Code has sent its proposals for establishing the

What worth being said is that different liberal officials have stated in the last week that the parliamentary elections will be held at the end of November 2008. Considering that also the minimum wage will increase from this autumn, and also the public pensions, the political messages on November elections can be taken into consideration.
Finally, it must be remarked that PD-L president Emil Boc has
announced that he will resign if the party will not gain the government
after the next parliamentary elections and that he will not be the party
nominee for the prime minister position, and also that an important
informal leader of PD-L (in the same time former president of PNL) Valeriu,
Stoica, has stated that PD-Land PNL should join again forces. Both of these
messages can be regarded both as political messages, first one being aimed
on showing the confidence in the
party's success in the parliamentary elections, and the second one on
showing that PNL has other opportunities than joining hands with PSD.
The political debates will remained focused on two major directions: anti corruption fight (related this time to the future head prosecutor of DNA) and economical issues (as the social democrats will continue to put pressure on the Cabinet in order to increase even stronger, or even faster the pensions and wages.
