INTRODUCTION
This is the second expansion pack available for the modification MooMan's Rules for Red Alert 2 and Yuri's Revenge. The Assault Expansion pack is a Yuri's Revenge only expansion that adds in a brand new game mode to MooMan's Rules, named Assault, a variation of Capture The Flag. The reason why this game mode is not included in the main mod like the others is that the idea did not origionate from me. CannisRabidus, author of the CannisRules mod has designed the Assault game mode to be an Expansion Pack that any mod is allowed to use, this expansion enables support for this game mode in MooMan's Rules. This also allows me to update support for new maps created for Assault without having to update the main mod itself, only this expansion.
This expansion only enables the Assault option in MooMan's Rules, you still need to download the maps for this game mode. To make it as easy as possible for users, these maps are only found at one location, the Assault Mappack homepage at https://www.cannis.net/assaultmaps. You still need to download the map files there and install them to finally complete the installation of the Assault mappack. For details of what the Assault game mode does, and details on the current mappacks available, continue reading.
INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
NOTE: When you install this expansion you must overwrite the RA2MD.CSF file currently in your RA2/YR Directory with the one here for full compatibility.
Since you are reading this file, then you have probably already extracted the files. You MUST extract all the files to your Red Alert 2/Yuri's Revenge directory (usually c:\westwood\ra2 and is the default destination for the extraction program) AND have MooMan's Rules already installed. If you haven't done any of this then please move the files to the directory and/or install MooRules now.
There should be four files related to Assault Expansion, those files are:
EXPANDMD04.MIX The main expansion file.
RA2MD.CSF The language override file. (overwrite this with the existing one in your RA2/YR directory)
ASSAULTEXP.DOC This readme file.
ASSAULTMD.PKT The extra map details file.
Now that you have the files in your Red Alert 2 directory, all you have to do is run Red Alert 2 or Yuri's Revenge normally with MooMan's Rules also activated and the changes will be in effect. The best thing about modding is that it does no permanent changes to the game. Remember only Yuri's Revenge is affected by this Expansion, and the Assault game mode is not available in Red Alert 2.
To uninstall the expansion, all you do is remove ONLY THREE files listed above from your RA2/YR Directory (see exception note below) and MooMan's Rules will return to normal. To remove MooMan's Rules entirely, read the MooMan's Rules readme file.
NOTE: When uninstalling, do not remove the updated RA2MD.CSF file that was overwrited earlier, remove only the three other files.
NEW GAME MODE - ASSAULT
The Assault Expansion adds in a new game mode now selectable from the Skirmish and Online selection screen. However to see any maps that you can use, you must download the MapPacks for this mode located at https://www.cannis.net/assaultmaps
Assault: Assault is a varient of the Capture The Flag mode unofficially seen in the origional Red Alert 1. Because proper Capture The Flag logic cannot be implimented in Yuri's Revenge, this is the closest we can get to it. Every player will start off with an Assault Flag structure in addition to their MCV and starting units (if any) and this flag canont be moved from it's position at the beginning of the game. When the Assault Flag is destroyed, by friendly or enemy fire, you are removed from the game. The objective is to destroy your opponants Assault Flag's while protecting your own. There are three varients of this game mode, normal Assault, which is just like Battle, Free For All Assault, which is Assault with Free For All game rules (no allying allowed), and Team Assault, which is Assault with Team Alliance game rules. Certain maps are only available in certain game modes, details about that are below. Your Assault Flag is a strong structure, it can take a lot of punishment before succumbing. Enemy players cannot place C4 charges, or capture your Flag and Chrono Legionnaires cannot warp the flag out of time, thus eliminating any quick ways a flag can be destroyed. You can also repair your flag if it as been damaged.
ASSAULT MAPPACK DETAILS #1
V2.0 of this Assault Expansion still provides support for the first of the Assault Mappacks. This mappack contains brand new and modified Westwood maps to include the coding for the Assault game mode. Downloading the mappack is a requirement to complete the support that MooMan's Rules has with the Assault game mode. MapPack #2 was, at the time of update, just recently released and so V2.0 of the Assault Expansion was also released to fully support this new MapPack in addition to the first. This MapPack contains 25 more high quality maps created by the experts of RA2/YR map construction as well as some more converstions of existing RA2/YR and TS maps.
