Symantec Mobile Security 4.0 for Symbian
This product supports the Symbian Series 60 and Series 80 platforms. This includes devices such as:
Thank you for participating in the external test program for Symantec Mobile Security. Please remember that our product is in a pre-release state. In the questions that follow, we will step through the basic functionality of our product. If you have any difficulties or run into any problems, please provide your comments and any details concerning your problem. Install
Installation
a. Launch the Symantec Mobile Security for Symbian installer from your device
b. Follow the instructions to install to your device
i. Please note that English is the only language available for external testing.
ii. Please elect to install LiveUpdate Wireless during the
installation process.
Success: The Symantec Mobile Security and LiveUpdate Wireless applications are on the device and should show up as two separate icons.
Antivirus Tests
2. Clean Virus Scan
a. Open the Symantec Mobile Security for Symbian application
b. Select "Scan" to begin scanning for viruses
i. On the Nokia 9300/9500, this is a button on the right side of the main screen.
ii. On all other phones, select "Options" then select "Scan"
Success: The application will scan through the entire Symbian file system and display a "Scan Summary" screen upon completion.
3. Auto-Protect
a. Download the Eicar test virus (Note: this is a harmless test virus) from https://www.eicar.org/download/eicar.com onto your PC or device
i. From your PC: Copy the Eicar test virus onto a MultiMedia Card or use PC suite and transfer the virus to your device.
b. Using your phone's file manager, browse to the folder containing the Eicar test virus.
c. Highlight the file containing the Eicar test virus.
Success: Auto-Protect will pop up and ask you to delete, allow access, or deny access to the infected file.
4. Infected Virus Scan
a. Download the Eicar test virus (Note: this is a harmless test virus) from https://www.eicar.org/download/eicar.com onto your PC or device
i. From your PC: Copy the Eicar test virus onto a MultiMedia Card or use PC Suite and transfer the virus to your device
b. Open the Symantec Mobile Security for Symbian application
c. Select "Scan" to begin scanning for viruses
i. On the Nokia 9300/9500 devices, this is a button on the right hand side of the main window.
ii. On all other phones, select "Options" then select "Scan"
d. Review the "Scan Summary" screen for any infected files found.
Success: The Eicar test virus will be caught and displayed in the Scan Summary. All instances of the virus will be accounted for.
5. Activity Log
a. From the main Security screen, open the Activity Log
i. On the Nokia 9300/9500, this is a button on the right side of the main screen.
ii. On all other phones, select "Options" then "Activity Log"
b. Use the arrow
buttons to scroll through the Activity Log entries
Success: Activity Log will contain entries for each scan performed, with the correct date and time. Any cancelled scans are logged as partial scans.
Accessing Web Pages
a. Open your phone's web browser
b. Connect to an internet web page (ie https://www.symantec.com)
Success: All web pages are able to be loaded correctly.
Changing Firewall Configurations
a. Open Symantec Mobile Security for Symbian
b. Select Preferences
i. On the 9300/9500 phones, this is a button on the right side of the main screen. Select Firewall, then press the "Configurations" button to the right of the screen.
ii. On all other phones, select "Options" then "Firewall Config"
c. Using the arrow buttons, cycle through the different protection levels.
d. Press "Done"
Success: The main screen should display the current Firewall protection level.
Updating Symantec Mobile Security for Symbian
a. Open LiveUpdate Wireless
b. Select Search
c. Verify that the updates are being downloaded
d. Verify that the LiveUpdate Wireless application notifies you of the completed download.
e. Check the LiveUpdate Wireless About Box
f. Open Symantec Mobile Security for Symbian and check the virus definitions date on the main screen
g. Check the Symantec Mobile Security for Symbian About Box
Success: All product information should be updated.
Using LiveUpdate Reminder
a. Open LiveUpdate Wireless
b. Select "Preferences"
i. On the 9300/9500 devices, this is a button on the right of the main screen
ii. On all other devices, select "Options" then "Settings"
c. Schedule a reminder
d. Press "Done" to register the scheduled reminder
Using LiveUpdate Scheduler
a. Open LiveUpdate Wireless
b. Select "Preferences"
i. On the 9300/9500 devices, this is a button on the right of the main screen
ii. On all other devices, select "Options" then "Settings"
c. Schedule a LiveUpdate Update session
d. Press "Done" to register the scheduled LiveUpdate
Success: A LiveUpdate session launches at the scheduled time.
Uninstall
Uninstall
a. Open the Application Manager
i. On the 9300/9500 devices, this is located in the Control Panel, in the Data Management section
ii. On all other phones, this is located in Tools folder
iii. Select Symantec Security
iv. Select "Remove" to uninstall Symantec Mobile Security
Success: Symantec Mobile Security and LiveUpdate Wireless will be uninstalled successfully. Icons should no longer be present.
