The Third 'Seven Year Plan' Installment Results In First Malfunction
January

Perhaps the initial steam and vigor wore off by
Tuesday night, the second Tuesday of the New Year. In the midst of a violent
turn of the page in concertland by Gary,
a "Seven Year Plan" was revealed and first ex 21121e412v posed just a week ago. That
initial Thursday night was the start of a new energy, a new era in the rich
history of basement concerts, which incidentally started in this same month,
three years ago. The second night went perhaps even better than the first, a
jolting night that contained most of the pomp and circumstance that Gary was wishing for with
his new campaign. But last night, the third concert into the "plan", did not
feature as much crisp execution as the first two nights. "I think it was a
combination of small things that seemed to get to me early on in the show. It
was a Tuesday night for one, and my speakers sounded like mud to me. I got a
little frustrated early and never really seemed to recover from it. And the end
result showed that," Gary
explains.
In a most bold effort to bring back the days of
old, most specifically the years 2001 and 2002, starting in early December
2007, Gary
started working on a new direction for his concerts for winter and spring 2008,
dubbing it the "Seven Year Plan". The plan is presumed to last through spring
2008 and end on May 15th. "It's pretty risky to play songs that
people have already heard a hundred times before, but I believe that the feeling
those songs bring, it sends me back into that world of 2001 and 2002, and those
are years I always seem to fall back on and remember the most. Something draws
me to that time in my life," Gary
says.
Last night featured much of the same feeling from
the first two nights last week, but it was apparent that it didn't come on as
strongly or as effectively. "It wasn't a disaster by any means,
I just think that Andy had a much stronger night. I don't think my execution
and feeling was quite where I wanted it to be," Gary says. The intended Seven Year Plan
wasn't meant for this time of the year, and in fact, fits much better in
warmer, less hostile climates of March and April, and May. Perhaps the plan was
started too early in the year, but it's too late to go back now. "After the
concert last night I was second-guessing myself about if I started the Seven
Year Plan too early. I even reminisced of the days of my old, 'normal'
concerts, but there's no way I'm going back to the normal style of concerts, I
can't do that now. The plan will go on.there is a syllabus to follow!" Gary exclaimed.
If the "Seven Year Band" can keep the energy and
feeling from the first two nights, they'd have something as good as their first
two concerts, but, as it stands, this was their first stumble.
