Many folks like having some tried and true methods of reiki practice to get them started along their healing path. Once one's confidence has been established, your imagination can afford you many methods of sending for any and all purposes. Below are some reiki techniques you may want to try. Following them step by step will result in reiki being applied for that purpose, but if you feel creative or guided to alter the methods suggested here, we encourage you to do so! These are only guidelines.
Clearing a space in which you wish to do energy work will cleanse that area energetically. Some say they are clearing negative energy. Others say that there is no such thing as negative energy, but instead are clearing stagnant, unproductive energy from their work space. There are many ways to clear a space - some include reiki, others do not. To clear with reiki try these methods.
If you are using Reiki symbols, draw the CKR or the SHK into the work space and let the reiki flow, intending that the space be cleared for the oncoming work to be done. If you are using reiki by intent only, then simply turn the reiki on, apply it to the area, and make the same affirmation of clearing the work space. Simple! Those who are sensitive to subtle energy may feel the difference between the cleared and the uncleared space. Others may rest assured that reiki has purified the area, making it ideal for energy work.
Alternate methods for clearing a space with reiki might include drawing the symbols on walls, doors and windows, programming crystals to emit cleansing reiki energy, or using reiki with colors, sounds, fragrances or other sensory stimuli intending to continually cleanse the area.
Fill the mirrors of your home with reiki energy, affirming that all who look into that mirror see themselves in love, or regain their energy, or feel their self worth, or other such life affirming goals. If you are sensitive to the feel of subtle energy, you may even feel the energy of the reiki bounce out at you when you gaze into the mirror. If you are using the reiki symbols you can draw any or all of them into your mirror with the energy.
This may be done as simply as placing reiki hands upon each chakra intending that it be cleared. However, many different methods of chakra clearing may be used to help focus your intent. The following is one such method.
Turn your reiki on and place the palms of your hands upon the top of your head. Breath in the reiki energy through your crown and imagine it running down through a central line in your body to the first chakra you want to clear. Visualize that chakra holding the energy and letting it build. Then imagine it opening fully as you exhale, blasting the color energy that chakra produces - red for the first chakra, orange for the second and up through yellow, green (or pink), blue, indigo and violet chakras. Intend that all blockages be flushed out of the chakra as you clear each one.
Finish up by bringing the reiki in through your crown and down along that central line again, but then sealing the energy within you until it builds in intensity. Then, release the energy out through all of your chakras at once as you exhale, imagining the appropriate color of energy streaming out of each chakra. Ground yourself well.
Many, many other chakra clearing exercises are possible with reiki. Just use your imagination, and your intent.
To help with high risk pregnancy, or just to assure the best possible outcome, try this method.
Turn the reiki on and send it, either by intent or by using the Distance symbol, into the womb of the mother-to-be. You can touch the mother if she allows, or you may beam the reiki to her. Affirm that you are sending reiki to the child in utero, so that it may be healthy and strong. Affirm that you are sending reiki to the uterus to make it a safe, nurturing place for baby to grow. Affirm that the mother also receives reiki to keep her healthy and strong for the upcoming delivery of her child. Most importantly, affirm that you are sending reiki to this pregnancy for the highest good of all concerned.
It is best if you first obtain permission to send reiki from either the mother-to-be or her higher self, and also from the baby's higher self.
Many people like to clear their food energetically before they consume it. That's a simple matter. If you are cooking the food yourself, you may wish to hold each ingredient for a moment or two before adding it to the dish, and reiki it with the intention of raising the frequency of the energy it holds, thereby "clearing" it. A brief reiki send is generally all that's needed.
If the food is cooking, hold your hands in front of or above the cooking vessel and intend that the reiki be sent into the food to cleanse it.
If the food has already been served, you might place your hands to the sides of the plate and, while you are enjoying the appearance and aroma of the food, send reiki to clear or raise its energy. This should be pretty inconsp 232i818c icuous, and easy to do in a public setting.
Curiously enough, many folks have reported that applying reiki to wine adversely affects the taste. You might try this yourself and make your own judgment.
One very important thing to remember when sending reiki to a situation is that you cannot predict the outcome. You can, however, rest assured that Reiki will do that which is for the highest good of all concerned.
To send reiki to help or heal a situation, set the circumstances in your mind. Turn your reiki on and envision the energy going to the situation as a whole, intending that the highest good be done. If you are using symbols, draw the SHK symbol and send reiki through and with it to the circumstances about which you are concerned. Repeat as you feel necessary, if at all.
HSZSN may be used to overcome time and distance obstacles, including sending reiki to a past situation. Reiki to past events can help heal perspectives and attitudes formed at times of past drama, trauma or discomfort. Envision the energy going to the situation as a whole, intending that the highest good be done.
Sending reiki ahead to any event, meeting or situation that you feel might be challenging is an excellent idea. The effects are subtle, but truly helpful.
Clear your mind and think about the coming event. Imagine positive reiki energy filling the surroundings of the event and remaining in place throughout. Then just let the reiki run. Again, if you are using symbols, draw a SHK symbol and send reiki with and through it. Other symbols may be used as well, all with the intent that the highest good be served.
This has been used successfully for such things as job interviews, parent-teacher meetings, a child's first day at school, court appearances, and many other potentially stressful situations.
Hold the crystal and turn your reiki on. Intend that reiki clear the crystal, neutralizing any intent connected to that crystal at that time. This can also be done without holding the crystal by beaming reiki into it.
Once you intuitively feel that the crystal has been cleared it is ready for programming. Turn reiki on and hold the crystal, or beam reiki to it, and ask that the crystal take on the task that you intend for it to perform. Let reiki energy fill the crystal while you embed it with the intent of the program you would like it to run.
Plants love reiki! You may incorporate Reiki use into your gardening and houseplant care in many ways. You may treat a plant with Reiki by touching it or holding its container and letting the reiki flow to it. You can also place your hands around the plant while giving reiki, or even just direct your palms towards the plant and beam reiki to it from across the room, or through the window.
There are many other ways to send reiki to a plant. Try applying reiki to the water or plant food you give them, or to the dirt they are planted in. You can draw the Power symbol under the plant's pot, or in the space in which it is growing
You can also reiki your plants by placing crystals in the area which are programmed to feed reiki continuously. Your plants will love reiki by any means you may creatively think up.
Chakras exist within our energy field and work as intake and outflow valves for the subtle energy which permeates our body and our environment. Each chakra processes this subtle energy at a different frequency, and we react to these frequencies in the manner specific to each one. Recognizing this mechanical functioning of the chakras makes working to adjust and balance the energy of our auras much easier. It also makes it very clear how energy imbalance affects our daily lives. The crown and root chakras extend directly from the hara energy line within the energy body. The other chakras have openings onto the front and back of our physical and energy bodies.
Different religions or energy practices may recognize different numbers of chakras, or attribute slightly different properties to the individual chakras. These differences may merely be reflecting varying degrees of detail of the energy body. Your intention to treat and keep your chakras in optimal working order will undoubtedly help to keep your energy body healthy. This in turn helps to prevent any disturbance of energy flow which might then manifest as physical, mental, emotional or spiritual dis-ease.
Below is one acceptable listing of the major chakras and their associated functions and related issues. As mentioned, opinions vary as to some of these attributes. We feel the following listing gives a good general overview of the major chakra system. Whenever possible, treat the front and back of the double sided chakras, or intend that the energy being sent to them do so.

Research has shown that both the brain waves and the energy emitted by healers in action fluctuates at frequencies between 7.8 and 8Hz. Interestingly enough, this corresponds exactly to the energy frequency of the earth's own magnetic field. When healers are healing, their energy automatically synchronizes with earth frequencies, enabling them to channel the same life enhancing energy with which our Mother Earth created us. Establishing a strong connection to earth energy, or "grounding", can help healers in a couple important ways.
During energy work we generally find that our upper chakras are well open, and energy is flowing quite freely through them. But without the balance of the lower chakra and earth energies, this upper chakra stimulation may make us feel light headed and a bit spacey in our thinking. By re-connecting with the earth energies while also using our upper chakras we can reestablish an energy balance, using all chakras along the energy route evenly. This will help us not only channel energy,
recognize and interpret the energetic information we may access while doing so. Grounding also helps us drain off excess energy within our energy body.
When we are not well grounded, our body feels the need to somehow regain its natural balance. It may seek to do this by feeling the need to eat, sleep, drink water, or move about. All these activities can help the body ground. To regain that balance more quickly, we can set our intent to balance those energies through grounding exercises. Again, intent is the key to success here as any visualization that helps to reconnect us to earth energy will complete the grounding circuit. A balance of energy is always our goal.
Problems with grounding can be very subtle at first, but can cause great distress if let go for too long. Susan recounts an example of that...
Some time back, we held an online Reiki On chat session featuring a list member who had just received an attunement minutes earlier. I had spoken to my attunee well before the chat session and told her specifically to sit quietly after the attunement and 'come back into herself. I told her not to hurry herself, and that we would wait in the chat room for her arrival. I finished the attunement and entered the chat room which was already filling up. Within just a few moments my attunee popped in full of energy and ready to chat. I asked her if she had taken the time to ground. Her response was, "I feel fine! No problem!" The chat continued, and we began to discuss the actual attunement.
It wasn't long before it became apparent that my attunee wasn't quite focused. Questions were asked with no answer forthcoming. She seemed full of energy, but there was no real direction or substance to her discussion, just a 'wowee!' kind of exuberance that really didn't further the conversation or educate the other chatters in any way. I suddenly realized what was going on.
'Are you feeling okay?' I asked her, and she seemed slow in getting a response back to me. I persisted, and waited for her to answer. There was a short pause, and then I saw her words on the screen. She was feeling light-headed and scattered in her thoughts. I told her to ground herself, and waited. Soon, I saw her response, which sounded a bit urgent in terms of online communication. She was grounding herself, but it wasn't doing any good. She couldn't 'bring herself down'.
Before she could work herself into a panic, I told her I'd work on her with distance reiki to help even out her energy body
and restore some balance by grounding her. With the use of the HSZSN, I went to her and examined her energy field. It looked and felt healthy, and highly charged. I slowly swept the excess energy away, combing it down and out of her aura. I purified this energy by visualization, to clear any debris I might have been removing with it. Then I took a good deal of time to place my reiki hands at her feet with the intent of drawing down all excess energy, and grounding it. The entire process took about 15-20 minutes, and the results were undeniable. The attunee immediately felt better, if not a little sheepish at having discounted the importance of reestablishing balance after her attunement. I don't believe she ever took grounding lightly again.
The following is a sampling of some of the many past activities we have done at Reiki On with an eye towards learning more about our reiki abilities and the properties of reiki energy. Other activities which were not included here involved subjects who were sitting as scan recipients, ephemeral chat room discussions, or experiments pertaining to files or photos which were used as a reference but no longer exist
We like to remind our list members that they should only take part in activities they feel comfortable doing. If there are physical, ethical or safety reasons
make them feel as though they should not participate, then they should definitely honor those feelings.
Results of each Reiki On group activity are marked with an asterisk after each account given. We recommend that you do not read these sections if you feel that you might in any way be swayed by previous exercise results.
1. Sketch out a rough floor plan or map for your office, home, school, grocery store, garden, or whatever area you choose to send healing. Choose an area that you inhabit or visit occasionally, so that you may monitor your results.
2. Once you have your map drawn, turn reiki on and draw the reiki symbols on the area to be healed with your fingertip.
Those who are not using symbols will be sending their reiki by intent. Pre-reiki and non-reiki may send their own healing energies if they wish, but do be careful to replenish your energies afterward (one of the many benefits of running reiki - you don't deplete your own energies).
3. Send reiki to the area to be healed on the map, intending to cleanse the area and heal it. You may also try placing a crystal or other catalyst on the area to be healed, programmed to continuously send reiki energy. You may add other affirmations of cleansing and healing, or you may add visualizations - whatever you are comfortable with. Be creative!
4. Repeat the sending of reiki daily, or send just when you feel it necessary. You may also send at intervals or continuously by using the HSZSN. Be creative, experiment and report your methods and findings to list.
Results at Reiki On for this experiment were very nice, indeed. Generally, the areas being reikiied were either homes, work places, or neighborhood areas which were in need of care. Change was seen in general demeanor and attitude of the people within these places, and in the attitudes of the senders, as well. It was felt that the general atmosphere of the places reikiied benefited, too. It was agreed that in most cases positive results were seen.
Several times now, RO members have mentioned that they have done their self treatments while in a source of water, saying that there seems to be a difference in the feeling of the reiki there. This exercise tests that premise, using reiki in both wet and dry conditions.
First, self treat using hand positions including head and torso. Then, use the same treatment method while you are either in the bath, in the shower, swimming, or otherwise in the water. Use the same hand positions and length of
area, so that an adequate comparison may be made. Pay close attention to how the reiki feels to you in both situations. Take note of your findings. "No difference" is also a valid response. Please exclude the eyes, back, and lower extremities of your body, to be as safe as possible during your water treatments.
If you feel so inclined, you might want to repeat the entire experiment at least once, so that you can get a good sampling of the energy during each wet and each dry treatment. This needn't be a full half hour to hour treatment. Just make sure it is the same treatment, for about the same amount of time at each position.
* Our results for this experiment included "no difference between the two at all", to folks who reported seeing interesting visuals and colors for the first time when they treated in water. Some seemed to feel that reikiing in the water intensified the energy flow, while others reported the water as being merely distracting.
Take a few moments at least once a day, to send reiki energy to tomorrow, intending that it be a great day for you.
If you are using the symbols, one method of sending might be to draw the HSZSN intending that the reiki be sent into the next day. Then draw the SHK and ask that loving, positive energy follow you throughout your day the next day. You might also use the CKR and ask that healing, energizing energy stay with you throughout the next day. You might use another HSZSN and intend that past, present and future problems not hinder you the next day. You get the idea. Be creative and do as you feel guided, intending that your next day be a great one.
If you are not using the symbols, you might still do any or all of the above suggestions, and just beam the reiki to do the job. You might choose a surrogate, like the calendar square for the next day, and use it to focus your sending. You might program a crystal with the energy and use it for your sending. There are many, many variations that you might use, so have fun while finding what feels effective for you, and don't be afraid to try new techniques to see if any feel better or more effective than those you've been using.
At the end of the day you sent reiki to, ask yourself how things went during the day. Take note of whether you noticed any difference in the situations you found yourself in, or the manner in which people acted and reacted towards you. Ask yourself if you were dealing with ordinary problems in a different way, or unusual situations in a better way. Ask yourself how you feel about the day you just finished, and jot down some quick notes.
Do this for at least three days running, reporting your results to list, and noting any variation you may have used in the treatment.
Most, though not all, participants for this experiment found sending reiki ahead to the next day to be a wonderful experience. Many stated that they intended to continue this practice in their daily lives. A couple folks sent reiki ahead to their tomorrow to find that the next day was very stressful for them. One wonders if reiki was instigating change or cleansing in those circumstances.
Susan recounts:
One hot August afternoon, I was alone at the homestead and
standing outside thinking about the drought we had been having.
Everything needed water badly, but each day was the same - hazy, hot and
dry. As I stood looking up at the sky and down at the dry Earth, a
thought popped into my head - "you can make it rain". I
thought, "you're kidding!", but listened
further. I got the impression that I should make a connection between the
hazy sky and the ground below, and at that moment, I felt my arm being raised
above my head. I put it down again, because...well...I like to test everything
to make sure that it isn't my imagination! Anyway, my arm raised up again, seemingly of its own volition. My
index finger pointed to an
Choose a day when there are clouds in the sky. Ground yourself well, and beam reiki at one of the clouds with the intent that you dissipate or dissolve that cloud. Give it some time, and take note of the results.
Alternately, choose a day when skies are clear, ground yourself well, and beam reiki at the sky with the intent of forming clouds. Imagine the water droplets clinging to small particles in the sky and grouping together to form a cloud. Beam for a while and take note of the results.
Try the experiment as often as you like, taking note of all changes made to the procedure, and your results. If you like, you may choose a day which looks as though it would be conducive to rain and try the "arm at eleven / arm at five" experiment, trying to trigger rainfall.
You may wish to add a grounding exercise to this experiment.
And one question along with this experiment - What do you think of the ethics of trying to affect the weather?
* About half of the participants for this experiment reported some amount of success with their rain/no rain sends. About a quarter of the folks trying the experiment reported results opposite those intended. Yet another quarter or so reported no difference. Especially interesting were the results
stated that the weather had always been directly influenced as several folks reported. This might indicate a personal talent amongst those people for bringing about change to the weather.
Several folks felt ethical problems with influencing the weather, whereas others said that they trusted that Reiki would do no harm.
Draw each reiki practitioner's symbol (CKR, SHK, HSZSN) on a separate piece of similar paper. Hold each paper and turn your reiki on, reikiing with the intent of charging the symbol and amplifying its own energies. If you want to try it without charging the symbols, that's fine too.
Fold the papers and place them each into a separate envelope so that each envelope looks the same as the others. If you'd like to just fold and hold the papers, make sure each paper looks and feels exactly the same as the others. Mix up the samples. If you like you may close your eyes, so that visual cues (such as certain wrinkles on the envelope) don't give anything away.
Sit quietly and center yourself. Select an envelope and hold it in your hands. Feel the energy from the envelope, and try to determine which symbol is drawn on the paper within it. Ask for assistance from your guides if you like. When you feel you know which symbol is in the envelope, open it and check your answer.
Try this experiment several times, and take note of your results and what led you to choose the correct hits - a feeling, a mental image, a thought in your head, a different
? How you sensed the symbol will tell you something about how you sense subtle energy.
* High success rates were reported with this experiment, although some had no success with it at all. One member even reported no success through three trials before her attunement, and then complete success with three trials following her attunement. This might indicate a higher skill or sensitivity in perceiving energy brought about by attunement.
Sending remote treatments to yourself can be very helpful, such as when you want to treat your back but are uncomfortable with hand placement there. It's also nice to send to yourself ahead of time to be received when going to bed, at work, or at other such times when healing energy might be a welcome treat. You may find that one method of remotely treating yourself is easier for you than another. Trying new techniques can help you find a method
is safe and effective for you.
Level two and three practitioners may use the HSZSN to send reiki to themselves, to be received at a time you desire to receive it. Level one reikis may use the power of intent to send to themselves. Send for as long as you feel guided. Stop at that point, and ground yourself. Repeat at a later time either using the same or different sending techniques.
When the times come that you had intended to receive, center and ground yourself and sit quietly, being aware of all senses, thoughts and feelings. See if you can sense the inflow of subtle energy from your previous send to that time. Take note of your findings. Did you feel the energy coming in? What did it feel like? Did it last as long as your original send? Did one send feel different from another? Be aware that there may be times when the reiki will be received on levels other than physical. Pay attention also to your dreams, your mental attitudes and your perspectives on current issues in your life.
This is a nice experiment as a way to self treat. Many found it comforting to feel energy that they themselves had sent, calming and energizing their bodies where they may have previously found it hard to reach! We saw very good results with this experiment.
Maureen Kelly in her book "Reiki and the Healing Buddha" gives some interesting perspectives on the nature of reiki energy. It is her belief that the Rei of reiki is one of the rays of the light spectrum which has yet to be discovered. She says that her experiences of using crystals for healing has led her to believe that our brain has the ability to filter out, or accept and use very fine vibrations which cannot be seen or heard. Although we can use reiki at any time of day or night, practitioners have said that giving a treatment outside in sunlight results in stronger reiki. The following exercise
that theory.
Perform a self treatment of reiki while in the sunlight. This could be outside or should the weather command, inside in front of a sunny window. Take note of how the treatment feels to you, and the results, if any. Later, try a self treatment at night, in the shade, or indoors. Pay close attention to any feelings you have during this treatment too, including the apparent strength of the reiki being sent, and any healing results. Compare the two treatments. Are there any differences?
If possible, also perform both a sunlight and a non-sunlight treatment on another recipient, whether hands-on or remotely, and ask for their feelings comparing the two types of sessions.
* Results were split fairly evenly down the middle on this exercise, some citing a strengthening to their reiki flow, and others citing no difference. One member questions the value of this experiment, saying that we may not be certain as to whether effects from a reiki treatment in sunlight are from the reiki, or from the vitamin and chemical changes sunlight causes in our bodies.
This experiment is one
should help us determine whether some widely held early theories of Reiki use are valid, or merely conjecture based upon the workings of other energy systems. Please perform the following two exercises either on yourself, or on another subject who is able and willing to give you appropriate feedback. Then answer the questions
follow
1. Self treat with jewelry on, and then off. Do you notice any difference?
2. Self treat with limbs uncrossed and then crossed. Do you notice any difference?
Question: Have you ever heard from a person who experienced pacemaker trouble when receiving reiki?
Question: Have you ever known anyone to treat a broken bone with reiki, only to have it heal before it can be set?
* Results on this experiment showed that approximately two-thirds of the people who tried reiki with jewelry and then without, felt no difference in the flow of energy. About half of the people who tried reiki with limbs crossed felt that it hampered reiki flow, while about half felt no difference.
There was only a handful of people who had direct knowledge of reiki treatment with those who have a pacemaker. They reported that there were never any problems using reiki with the pacemaker patients.
Few people had knowledge of broken bones being treated with reiki, although one had been treating a problem bone which would not set, and found that reiki did not set it, either.
This attunement is one
was actually brought about with the help of my reiki guides. You see, I had wanted to send a treatment to my subject to promote abundance in one's life. I had knowledge of some energy symbols, some Reiki and some not, which I could have used towards this purpose, but I didn't feel drawn to using them.
Not quite knowing how I wished to structure my treatment, I asked my guides how I should proceed. I was immediately told that I could promote abundance in my subject's life by raising the frequency of their aura in such a way as to draw the energy of abundance to them, and also to help them manifest abundance for themselves.
I was told to draw the Cho Ku Rei symbol into the crown chakra and palms of the hands, and then to proceed in generally raising the frequency of the subject's energy field.
Shortly after this, the subject of abundance was brought up yet again at Reiki On. I decided to offer this method of frequency raising for abundance to the group, in order to test its effectiveness. The Reiju attunement technique seemed to be the best carrier for a sending en masse such as this. I feel results were quite good.
Hi All!
This month's experiment will test some info I was given in guidance. I had set my intent to do some abundance work for a subject I was working with, and began to plan what to do. I had known a symbol for abundance from one of my other Reiki systems, but I could not find it, could not remember its name, and took that to mean that I was not to use it at that time. I asked my guides exactly what I should do, and I was told to raise the frequency of the subject's aura by placing the CKR symbol in the palms and crown, and then work to raise the frequency of the subject's entire aura, thereby making the subject better able to manifest abundance for themselves. This month we will test this premise.
Here's what I would like you to do...
All wishing to participate (you do not need to be Reiki to do so), may "pull down" a special Reiju attunement that I will send, which also has the CKRs and the frequency raising work incorporated in it. During attunement, and immediately after, I would like you to state your intent to receive one wish that you will have formulated carefully beforehand. Important: Make sure that it is something that is clearly thought out and defined, harms nothing and no one, and does not strive to work against anyone else's will or highest good. Does anyone have any more tips for formulating a wish or desire?
Report to List any feelings or sensations you may have had at this point, and then watch carefully over the next few weeks to see if all or any part of your wish seems to come into being.
To pull down the Reiju and abundance attunement...
Sit comfortably or lie down. Center yourself and ground well. Get into a nice, meditative state of mind by following your breath, toning, or any other type of meditation with which you are comfortable. Once you feel you are ready to receive the attunement, state your intent silently to "now receive the Reiju and abundance attunement Susan has sent out", or something to that effect. I will give you several days to carefully formulate your wish, and then I will announce when I have sent the attunement. If you like you may try to pull it down repeatedly. Afterwards, put some energy towards your wish - it should be easier to manifest, if it is in your highest good at this time.
You may, or may not, feel any effects associated with receiving the attunement. Begin taking any related notes, and present them to List at any time.
That's it! Have I forgotten anything? Any questions?
Love,
Susan :
Below is the exact method I used for sending this attunement...
Before sending the attunement, I instructed all potential attunees to carefully formulate a wish, affirmation or desire that they would like to receive in abundance. I reminded them to "make sure that it is something that is clearly thought out and defined, harms nothing and no one, and does not strive to work against anyone else's will or highest good". It was suggested that they make their affirmations or wish during and immediately after receiving the attunement.
I prepared by clearing the area to be used for attunement, and blessing it with the Dai Ko Myo. I chose a high frequency crystal, placing it so that it pointed between myself and the hara line of the intended recipient(s). I used a clear selenite crystal for the attunement sent to RO members.
Connecting with the Hon Sha Ze Sho Nen, the attunement began with the placing of CKR into the crown chakra. I then continued with the Reiju empowerment, performing the hand positions at the crown, temples, and third eye. When I got to the point where I was to send energy into the hands, I opened them and placed the CKR into the palms, before proceeding normally through the rest of the Reiju.
Once the Reiju was done, I spent a few moments brushing the aura upwards with reiki, intending for the energy of the person's aura to be raised in frequency. As I recall, I also chose a tone I was hearing in my head, and mentally forced the pitch of this tone upward as I went along.
While sending reiki in this manner, I affirmed continuously that all who chose to accept this attunement would have their energy field raised in frequency for the purpose of drawing the energy of abundance into their lives, and to make it easier for them to manifest abundance for themselves. I also affirmed that the attunement be available for continuous draw, since I could not know when each RO member might like to receive it. After many months, I am still receiving reports of the attunement being called down as active. I call the attunement down myself at times to make certain it is still available, and when I do I always affirm that energy from the attunement be redirected back to it, so that it remains active and energized.
To finish the attunement, I bowed in gassho, honoring my guides for their assistance, and my subjects for their participation.
I do hope that you have success with this attunement method for yourself and your subjects. It would make me truly happy to feel I might have helped to make life a little easier for folks, somewhere along the way!
NOTE: I set my intention to have this attunement re-powered each time it is "pulled down" by a receiver. You may try receiving this attunement yourself.
Above is just a sampling of many monthly activities and experiments we have performed at Reiki On over the years. It seems important to note that the most consistent finding of these experiments was that where something may not work for everyone, it may work consistently for some. It is best for each individual to try the experiments in which they are interested, and record their results to determine their own strengths and skills pertaining to reiki use.
Many energy workers find that reiki fits in nicely with other energy systems or therapies with which they are already working. We attempt here to give a brief explanation of different methods of combining energy skills.
What do we define as a Reiki add-on? Using alternative techniques such as crystals, color therapy, massage, aromatherapy, herbalism, or other such treatments in conjunction with Reiki could come under this heading. Reiki-ing Tarot decks or Rune stones to give the reader more insight could also fall into this category. Or maybe all those other modalities or systems of Reiki that have appeared in the last twenty years are more likely to come to mind.
Karuna Reiki is a trademarked system devised by William Rand using extra symbols that he was
Kathleen Milner claims that a higher being gave her the information and attunement procedures which led her to devise Tera-Mai
Reiki, which is very similar to Karuna
. Both these systems use similar symbols - many are non Usui and the attunement methods differ from those recognized in the Usui Method of Reiki. Tera-Mai
Seichem is a combination of Tera-Mai
Reiki with the addition of Sakara, Angeliclight and Solphi-el energies. Usui/Tibetan Reiki, also taught by William Rand, has various extra symbols and techniques added in. There are many other modalities including Radiance Technique
which originates with Dr. Barbara Ray (one of Hawayo Takata
s master students), Reiki Plus
(a system developed by David Jarrell), Raku Kei, Blue Star Reiki, Lightarian Reiki
and many more. The Japanese Reiki schools are now being taught in the West, and various new ideas are being added to our existing knowledge. Those who have sampled the energies report various differences in the feel, power and vibration, and no doubt there are those who like to add these techniques to their reiki repertory. However for all the systems that continue to evolve, a lot of reiki practitioners still prefer to work with the original plain and simple Reiki that Mikao Usui gave
us.
There are great benefits in combining Reiki with other
complementary therapies, and one that is used by a lot of practitioners is
crystal healing. This is a therapy in its own right, and the study of
crystals and their powers is both fascinating and exciting. We will not
delve into crystals in any detail because there are many excellent books on the
subject and not enough space here to teach it well, but they are a very useful
reiki tool. They have their own energies, but can also be programmed to
hold reiki for a considerable time and act as a transmitter.
To make a typical crystal and reiki grid you would need a dish of cleansed sand, and various crystals of your own choice. The dish of sand ensures that the crystals are
knocked over by pets or children, and stones can be added easily as more requests for healing are received.
A large cleansed and blessed stone is placed in the center as a generator. This could be a quartz crystal cluster, a large obelisk, a rough natural stone, or maybe simply your largest tumbled stone. Around this you can make a pattern of stones, each one representing a person receiving reiki from you. You may like to make a design such as a Star of David, a Reiki symbol, a simple circle or square.
When you have placed all your stones you can draw the power and distance symbols over the grid and feed reiki to it, making your affirmations for each person to receive reiki for their particular condition. You continue to give reiki to your grid for perhaps a week, after which you refresh and cleanse your crystals and start again. A more simple method is to construct your grid using quartz lasers, and simply place these over a piece of paper on which you have listed all those requiring distant healing.
Crystals can also be used on a person whilst giving them a reiki treatment, and if you are knowledgeable about their especial uses then this can be combined with reiki by placing them on the specific areas of the body that require healing. I will often send my clients home from a reiki treatment with a tumbled stone
has been empowered with reiki. I advise them to carry it with them at all times, and hold it or place it on themselves when they feel the need. I then focus on the crystal when I send them reiki by distance.
Flower essences are used by many, and there are many different types on sale around the world. Perhaps the most well known are the Dr. Bach remedies. He was the originator of the flower essence treatment, and they are known to be helpful in all manner of emotional problems. Reiki your treatment bottles before giving them to your client in the same way you reiki your food. You will then receive a double benefit with each dose.
Those of you who make flower essences as I do can use reiki to help make the choice of which flower to select for which condition. Not only do I reiki the spring water that I suspend the flowers in, but I also draw the Reiki symbols on each Mother Tincture as I make it. Treatment bottles are made up from the Mother Tincture, and it is these that are used to mix the final treatment bottle for your client.
First you need to decide which essence, or combination of essences, are the best mixture for your client. I find that this is where reiki can play an important part. Clients are much more relaxed after receiving reiki, and far more able to discuss the problem that may be the root of their condition. Sending a person home with another treatment to follow can also help considerably in working through the healing process. Each bottle I make has the emotional symbol drawn over the bottle, and I feed reiki to it whilst making an affirmation relevant to the treatment required. Each day the client is advised to take four drops of the essence either in water and sipped frequently, or placed directly under the tongue. This should be followed four times each day. The next time they come for a reiki session the treatment bottle is re-evaluated, and often the type of flower essence is changed as the healing process progresses.
As with all these add-on therapies, sound therapy can be used for healing alone or with reiki. Many people use sound in the form of bells, gongs or singing bowls for clearing the space they wish to do their energy work in. You can then go on to use it for treatment as well.
Earlier we spoke about the attributes of the chakras and the tone at which each chakra resonates and functions. Each chakra's note or tone reflects the frequency at which that chakra should process energy. Sounding a note played in the correct pitch as the chakra in the area in question, sets up a set of sound waves
help correct the frequency of the energy in that area. The subject may also be given a particular tone to hum or chant with that sets up that same frequency of wave patterns for healing.
Various tapes and CDs may be bought to help the subject adjust their energy bodies according to the frequencies expressed in the music. There is music written for chakra balancing, as well as music written to create particular mental or emotional states.
A related form of healing uses color therapy, as colors too resonate in particular frequencies
may correct the energy patterns in a subject's aura. Both sound and color therapy when combined with a reiki treatment, can help comfortably ease the subject into a state of healing.
Another technique that some feel is an add-on to Reiki therapy is the technique of removing cords. There are cords of energy
run between ourselves and other human beings with whom we interact. Typically, these cords attach themselves to our chakras, especially but not exclusively, to the solar plexus chakra. Should the time come when the relationship between two people no longer serves the highest good of one or both, it is best to "sever ties" with that person. This can be made easier by disconnecting the energy cords between them.
It is a fairly easy task to remove energy cords, however if contact is made with the other party again, the cords may re-form. No matter. They may be easily removed again. Some folks are sensitive to these cords, and can either see or feel them connected to their bodies. Others can only visualize or imagine their presence. Either way, when it is best to disconnect yourself from another person for whatever reason, simply grasp the cord (or grasp where you imagine the cord would be if you could sense it), and gently but firmly pull it out of the chakra in question. Release the cord, intending that it gently return to the person to whom you were tied. It is always a good idea to remove cords from the solar plexus chakra, but if you feel you should repeat the procedure at another chakra, then do so.
You may feel a difference immediately, or you may feel nothing at all. Over a short time however, you should feel some relief of detachment from the person you are severing ties with. To be thorough, you should also treat the chakra(s) from which you removed the cords. Stress or injury may have been done to the chakra as a result of the attachment itself. Now that the cords have been severed, you can heal any damage that may have been done.
You needn't worry about severing ties with loved ones by mistake. Your intent will immediately reconnect any ties important to you.
One way to powerfully focus intent is to use visualization. Many people shy away from this technique because they don't feel they skilled enough at it. In reality, it's a very easy and effective tool for anyone to use.
Although there are some visualization techniques in which it is best to form the most detailed picture in your mind of the result you wish to achieve, it isn't always necessary to be that thorough to bring about results. In some cases, visualization can be nothing more than "imagining with intent".
One way you might use visualization while doing Reiki would be to move energy during treatment. For example, a blockage in the aura could be imagined, or visualized, as a stagnant knot of energy. Reaching down into the area, you could gently scoop the knot out and hold it in your hand. Using reiki as a laser, gently slice around the knot and separate it from the aura. You might then imagine the knot you removed being burned away by cleansing reiki energy as you held it in your hands. Feeding reiki into the area where you removed the blockage will then heal that portion of the aura.
At that point you might blow reiki through the area and visualize the energy as a powerful stream opening a free flowing channel through the area that was blocked. Check after your treatment to feel if the blockage is gone, and that the energy has returned to a normal flow. Repeat the process if necessary.
This is just a short
of the many disciplines
may be used in conjunction with Reiki, and only brief descriptions of how they may be used. With these and most other therapies, we strongly urge taking a recognized course before attempting to practice upon yourself or others. Some methodology should not be used by expectant mothers. Some should not be used in conjunction with conventional prescription drugs. Most however, when used properly, can bring about added benefit to both the Reiki practitioner, and also the person seeking treatment.
I will do my work honestly.
I will be kind to my neighbor and every living thing.
Guided meditation can be a great tool to help focus intent on various aspects of energy work. It can be used for any variety of purposes from grounding, to preparation for attunement, to stress relief and more.
To perform a guided meditation for yourself, it is best to tape record the meditation you wish to follow. Then sit with upright back in a comfortable position, eyes closed, hands on knees, and palms upwards. Listen quietly to the meditation, taking time to visualize or otherwise experience the exercise you are leading yourself through. At meditation's end, always take a few minutes to quietly come back to the present.
Below are examples of guided meditation from both Karen and Susan. You'll notice small asterisks throughout the narratives. These were placed to suggest pauses during reading to give the meditator time to visualize what has been described for them. Be creative and write one for your own specific needs. They can be quite helpful in many situations!
From Karen:
Those people who practice meditation regularly will have their own favourite way of calming the mind, but there are many who find it very difficult to relax and just
be
. Practicing the exercise Hatsurei-ho (explained at the end of Chapter two) is our recommended meditation for students about to receive either an attunement or reiju, but there are plenty of other ways to achieve a similar result. You may have a favourite CD or audio tape such as natural sounds of the rainforest, or dolphins and whales singing. It
s just a question of finding your own way to bring yourself into a state of relaxation and peace. Many teachers now record their own meditations onto audio tape for their students, and this is one I devised which my students appear to enjoy...
Sit or lie comfortably. You may prefer to sit on a chair but try always to make certain your back is straight. You can also sit on the floor, either cross-legged, or on a special meditation stool or cushion. Whichever you prefer, be sure that you will be able to hold the position you choose for 10 minutes or more.
Close your eyes and allow them to soften in their sockets. Bring your mind to the breath and spend a short while breathing in through the nose, and out through the mouth. Do this five or six times. Now take three deep breaths, drawing the air in through the soles of the feet and bringing it up through the body whilst feeling it relaxing all your muscles. As you breathe out, see all the tension, stress and anxieties of the day leaving your body through your feet. You should now be feeling more relaxed.
It
s time now to take a journey, and I would like you to visualise yourself standing beside a beautiful blue lagoon. There are palm trees whispering in the gentle breeze, brightly coloured birds winging through the azure blue sky, and warm soft sand between your toes.*
You are gazing into the turquoise water
is shimmering gently, and beneath the water you can see dolphins playing. You call them using the whistling noise they understand. Two come up to the surface in front of you smiling and nodding their heads. They appear to be beckoning you to join them.* Walk into the water and place one hand on the back of each dolphin whilst gently subsiding into the warm water.* The dolphins swim either side of you holding you up, and you feel as if you are floating on a cloud as they take you to the centre of the lagoon where there is a small island. They swim with you to the beach and gently push you onto the sand. Are you perhaps wondering why they have brought you here?*
Ahead there is a small cave whose walls are glistening with crystals in the sunlight. You walk slowly into the cave where you can hear the tinkle of wind chimes, and what sounds like music played on pan pipes.* There is a presence - you can feel it all around you - and you know that someone is waiting to see you. Sit down and wait. It will happen. This is your private time so now just sit quietly and listen.*
(Pause here for several minutes.)
Your meeting is drawing to a close. Who was there waiting for you? Your angel, guide or totem animal maybe? You feel enriched and full of wonder.* The dolphins are calling you back to the beach, so now it
s time to walk slowly back and join them. They bring you back across the lagoon, and push you gently back up onto the beach to stand back on the warm sand.* Walk slowly up the beach and back into the
now
Now in your own time, take three breaths and slowly open your eyes.*
After a guided meditation such as this it can be a nice idea to share experiences with those students who wish to talk. Some find it quite overwhelming and their feelings should be respected. Offer fresh spring water and allow them to recover before undertaking further reiki work.
And from Susan:
Many people find that after they make Reiki a part of their lives, great changes begin happening both to them, and around them. That is because being attuned to Reiki means that your energy body is being adjusted to accept and process what some consider higher frequency energies. Negative energies begin to fall away from you and you begin to see yourself, your environment and the people around you reflecting this change in energy. The meditation described below can help you center yourself and focus on what you now need to do to make the most of the new opportunities
await you when the world around you is in transition.
Picture your life as having been a small, confining room
has held you and everything you know tight within it. It was safe, but far too small.* Now, as your soul expands to include all the positive energies which can help you grow spiritually, the walls of your old life begin to crack, and give way. You listen to the rumbling around you and realize that these sounds indicate change.*
At first, you are afraid. This small room has been all you have known for so long. You
to function within it, and do the things you had to do to get by. But now, it is not
enough. Large cracks are beginning to appear in the room, and the walls are beginning to break apart. Soon, your life will be completely different. You don't know how you will cope. As your stomach begins to tighten, you take a deep breath, and then slowly release your fear along with your breath.*
Breathe in deeply, and once again expand your soul. You can feel your aura around you pressing against the sides of the old, constricting walls of your life. It is so tight in the room. The walls are beginning to shake, and the cracks grow larger. A bright white light shines from beyond them through the cracks. You look up into the light, wondering what it's nature is. You hold tight within a corner of your life, waiting and listening. Take a deep breath, and blow it towards the light slowly.*
Suddenly, the room begins to collapse. Large chunks of plaster fall around you making loud thudding sounds. Dust fills the air, making it harder to breathe. You run from the life room which is now falling completely apart around you. You don't know what you will find, but you run out into the light. Suddenly you are out. There is a peaceful quiet. There is light and fresh clean air here. Breathe deeply, filling your lungs with the sweet fresh air. Exhale slowly, releasing your stress.*
Everything is different here. There is light and space and so much air. You breathe in the clean air, and exhale. You lift your arms to better feel a warm breeze caressing your skin. Take a deep breath, hold it a moment and blow it out slowly, along with all your tensions and stress. You are safe.*
Soon a thought crosses your mind. Things are different here. Unknown. You look around you to explore your options. You don't know how things work here. From lack of any other knowledge, you do the things you have always done. Some of these old things work in your new space. Some, but not all. You are thinking.* You tried a few things in your new environment. You decide to keep doing the things that worked, and try new things instead of what didn't work. You begin to see a structure around you. A structure that you are helping to build. It works a little differently, but it provides the same needs. You go from day to day in this new place, learning what works and what doesn't, and changing your actions to fit your needs. It is a time of transition.*
One day, you decide that you would like a new life room for yourself, and you have learned what to do to make one. You begin doing those things. Soon, you sense the comforting presence of walls, and a new ceiling forming around you.
are solid and comforting. You have built this new place. You have accomplished this. Your new life room is exactly as you always dreamed it could be. You've added doors and windows and even that one special place you always wanted for yourself.*
You come and go, always returning to your new life space. It is open and airy and new. You feel comfortable here. You feel strong, and good. You are proud of the fact that you designed and built your life yourself. All that has passed is time, and a lack of experience. You begin to feel that you can handle anything that life presents you with. You can work any problem.
Hug yourself, take a deep breath, and release it slowly. Take a moment and come back into yourself.*
This is a lovely meditation for exploring the symbols further, to see how you might communicate through them, and how they may feel to you.
Sit comfortably, breathe deeply, and slowly release your breath. Choose a symbol to work with.*
Draw or visualize the symbol of your choice in your mind. Make it at least as big as you are. Beam reiki to the symbol in your mind, imagining the symbol turning into a brightly polished metal as you beam.* Strike the metal symbol, using it as a gong. Imagine it vibrating. Feel its vibration against your skin.* Listen to it hum as it vibrates.* Can you see the energy waves coming from it? Do they have a color?* Feel the vibrations moving through you, bringing you to the vibrational level of the symbol. Hold this state as long as you are feeling anything. And strike the gong again.* There are thoughts forming in your mind. You see visions. These are messages especially for you at this time.* (pause here)
When ready, breathe deeply and bring yourself back to the present.*
Repeat when ready with another of the symbols. If you are feeling nothing when you do this, then perhaps you need the energy from a different symbol at that time.
There is a school of thought that says Usui devised Reiki primarily as a system to advance one's spirituality, and that the healing of the physical, mental and emotional aspects of our lives were added benefits. Here is a private meditation you can do on your own which should help broaden your awareness of self and spirit.
Sit quietly in an environment
lends itself to your relaxation. Turn on your reiki, and brush your aura downwards on all sides you can comfortably reach. Position your hands at the crown chakra and apply reiki. Ask your Higher Self if there is a message for you at this time. Sit quietly and listen as you apply reiki.*
Move your hands over the front and back of your third eye chakra. Ask your Higher Self if there is a message for you at this time. Sit quietly and listen as you apply reiki.*
Move your hands to your temples. Ask your Higher Self if there is a message for you at this time. Sit quietly and listen as you apply reiki.*
Move your hands over your eyes. Ask your Higher Self if there is a message for you at this time. Sit quietly and listen as you apply reiki.*
Move your hands over the front and back of your throat chakra. Ask your Higher Self if there is a message for you at this time. Sit quietly and listen as you apply reiki.*
Once again, brush your aura downwards around you. Sit quietly and come back into yourself while thinking or saying:
Today I give thanks for my many blessings.
Today I will not worry.
Today I will not be angry.
Today I will do my work honestly.
Today I will be kind to my neighbour and every living thing.

In the spirit of that popular kid's book series "Captain Underpants" by Dave Pilkey, we'd like to make available to everyone their own special reiki name! Just take the first letter of your first name, find it in the first group of letters, and follow across to find your new reiki first name. Do the same with the first letter of your last name in the second group of letters to find your new reiki last name. This is definitely not traditional reiki!
Thank you! Have fun and
