1. List reklamacja.

Dear Sir/Madam.

I'm writing to you concerning a CD player (model.) that I purchased several months ago from one of yours dealers here in Krakow: Mix Electronics Discount Audio. From your ads, I was led to believe that your audio equipment is the best available on the market. That's hard to believe, considering that I've had nothing but problems with my CD player from the day I bought it. For one thing, the tracking mechanism doesn't work properly. I can never tell for sure what part of the CD is playing. And now there's problem whit the control panel and volume control, sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't works. I took the CD player to the service department at Mix Electronics. When I picked it up, they said they'd fixed the tracking mechanism as best they could, but it still doesn't work properly. I'm sick and tried of all the problems I've had with your product. I hope you will understand my concern. I look forward from you about what you can do to helps solve this problem.

Sincerely yours BJ.

2. Ja przyjeżdżam do Krakowa.

Dear .....

Thanks for your letter, I got it this morning. I'm sorry I haven't been able to write for two weeks, but I've had to do a lot of work. I'm very happy that I will be able to come to Krakow next month. Don't worry about hotels. There's the Hotel Holiday In. I was in Krakow twice.

I haven't been in Krakow since 1986. What historic places have I seen ? I have seen Krakow's market place, it was beautiful. I have been to Wawel castle and dragon cave. I have never been to Mariacki Church and I haven't seen the largest altar in Krakow. I haven't seem much of the countryside. I would wont to go to the cinema or the theatre. I would wont to go Jordan Park too. I think that is here a lot of interested places to sightseeing, which I haven't seen yet. I believe that you will show me these places. Greet family and see you next month. I hope you will be able to meet me at the airport. I really appreciate any help you can give me and I'm looking forward to spending time with you again.

Sincerely yours BJ

I interested in computer science. The sports which I like are swimming, basketball and football. Please write to me about yourself, your family. BJ.

4. Co będzie w2050.

Many people believe that in the 2050 computers will have become absolutely essential. People will make friends through the Internet. What is more, a large number of people will even come across their future husbands or wives in this way. Education will have changed a lot too. As more and more children will be using computers in schools. Space exploration will become increasingly popular. Fifty per cent of the people we talked to believe that man will regularly visit Mars. Perhaps we will be flying off for a holiday on the moon. Pollution is something that seems to worry many people. Some fear that it will continue to get worse, and that our planet will become impossible to live on. Some people think that by 2051 there will be a cure for cancer and AIDS. If scientists manage to find a cure for these, we'll have a much healthier society. Some people worry about the future, while others are full of hope and enthusiasm.

5. Prawda. (The Truth)

When I was a child, I loved to go wherever my two older brothers went. Most of the time, though, they wouldn't let me go with them because they said I was a tattletale. One hot day, instead of staying home as my father had told us, my brothers decided to go swimming in the river, which at times was dangerous because of the strong current. My father always went with us in case of an emergency. Despite what my father had told us, my brothers were determined to go, but they couldn't make up their minds whether to let me go or not. I begged passionately. At last, my older brother Tom said yes only if I promised not to tell my father. So we went, and the water was cool and refreshing. We had just gone home when my father arrived. Our hair was still wet, and he immediately knew what we had done. Instead of asking my brothers, he asked me if we had been swimming. I couldn't decide whether to tell the truth or not. Finally, trying to keep the promise I had made to Tom, I said, "What should I tell him, Tom?"

6. Spędzanie czasu wolnego.

After a long and tiring day at school I like to spend my free time in such away that I feel relaxed. The kinds of activity I choose depend upon the time of the year. When it is sunny and warm I go out. When it is cold, rainy and dull - I stay at home. In the summer I ride my bicycle. I like to go to the forest, where the air is fresh, but sometimes I ride round the city to see if something interesting is going on. Usually the bicycle trips take me about an hour. Also, if it is warm I use my bicycle when I go shopping or go to visit some of my friends. I often visit my friends and I like them to visit me. As we always have something interesting to talk about, we never get bored with each other. My friends and I often go for walks and it does not matter if it rains or the sun shines. Going for long walks and cycling are favourite outdoor activities of mine. Late in the evening I like to read books or magazines: Reading takes most of my spare time during the long winter nights. Sometimes I play computer games. But I do not spend much time in front of the TV screen. I am also interested in films and the theatre. I do not have any manual skills, so I neither draw nor paint. It seems that I am quite a busy person. I am, indeed. But sometimes, after a busy day the best way of spending my free time is just lying in bed, doing nothing.

7. Plan dnia.

My weekday begins at 7 a.m. when I make my bed, wash myself, and get dressed. Afterwards I eat my breakfast and at twenty to eight I am ready to leave for school. My exercise and lecture begin at 8 a.m. Usually we have 2 or 3 exercises which finish at about 1 or 2 p.m. I come back home twenty minutes later, have a snack and do my homework. I have my dinner at half past four when my father is back from work. Twice a week, I have my language lessons: English and French. They start at 5.15 and finish at 6.15. In the evenings I read books or watch television. Sometimes I meet my friends, but most of all I study. If I am tired I go to bed early. If I am not, I stay up late

8. Moje hobby.

My hobby is music. I listen to music all the time when I am at home, except when I am in the living room and the television is on. Most of all I like pop music and such pop singers as Prince, Tina Turner and groups such as Dire Straits, The Rolling Stones. I often watch MTV music programmes and I'm especially keen on concerts with groups or singers. Every group has at least one good song so I also like to listen to the top ten of the hit lists. I also like to play the guitar and sing. My voice is not very beautiful but I like singing. It is hard for me to imagine life without music. I think that most young people are interested in music, some of them in rock, some in rap or heavy metal. But they all are sensitive to music even if they do not play any instrument. My hobby is not very original but is very typical of my generation.

9. Hobby 2.

My hobbies have changed in the last few years. In the past I collected postcards, stamps, badges, and different stickers but I have always been faithful to books. It is my great hobby: I never part with books, they have always been my best friends. Along with the heroes I enter a new, secret world; and experience their travels and adventures. I learn what it is to laugh and to cry. A book is good at any time. When it rains and the whole world is grey and sad, I can lie on golden sand or Climb Mountains. 1 read books about different subjects and my favourite authors are J. Chmielewska, J.R.R. Tolkien. They describe unusual adventures. My collection is quite large but l cannot have all -books I like at home. Some of them I borrow and then I remember them aryl "keep them in my heart". I know I will have many interests and hobbies in the future but books will always be one of the most important.

10. Mój ulubiony sport.

I am rather fit and play sport almost every day my favourite sport is swimming I started going to the swimming pool with my mother when I was 4 years old. The water in the swimming pool seemed very cold to me then and I did not want to get into it. My mother was persistent and we went there every Sunday. I started to swim very soon. Now I can swim all the strokes, but my favourite one is the breaststroke. I also like to dive into water and to play ball. Especially in summer when it is warm. Apart from swimming I also play basketball and ride a bike. Sometimes I wish I had more time during. The school year to do some more sports, but I really do them a lot during summer.

11. Sport.

Almost everybody, and especially young people, plays some kind of sport. It is very good for our bodies and helps us to keep them fit. There is rather a big difference between playing sport as an amateur or as professional. Professionals should follow a special diet as they often strain some groups of muscles. In such cases they must follow the instructions of coaches and diet specialists. There are sports that are dangerous to health such as boxing, kickboxing and others. The safest physical sport is swimming. It is a really good exercise for the whole body and it can help you to relax. It is popular among both men and women. Some sports such as aerobics are more popular among girls and women and some, such as wrestling, judo or karate are snore popular among men. Any sport done in a moderate, reasonable way has a positive effect on our health.

12. Jak byc zdrowym i sprawnym.

Everybody wants to be in good shape. As many people are busy; they do not have much time to think of their own body. They think of they feel good, they do riot have to do anything for their health. Yet if they take care of themselves now, it will benefit them in the future. Doing sport is very useful. While playing it we work with all our body and accustom our bodies to effort. The best place to do sport is outdoors. Oxygen comes into our brain. This is particularly important for those who have to learn a lot, or work intellectually. It is good to avoid some kinds of food. We should not eat too many sweets and dishes containing fat.We should avoid cholesterol and we should not drink too many drinks containing caffeine. Our diet should contain as much fruit as possible; lots of vegetables end dishes containing vitamins: We std also dunk fruit juices and mineral water; and avoid smoking and drinking alcohol which will ruin our health and our - body. Smokers are physically weaker and less immune to diseases their lungs get big doses of nicotine every day; so are the people who drink alcohol their alimentary canals are in danger. There are quite a few things to do for ourselves if we want to stay healthy and fit. These things take time and require strong will. But maybe it is worth the sacrifice. In twenty years we will appreciate the results of our efforts, and we will be proud of ourselves

13. Zwierzerta które lubię.

Animals are an important part of our environment: I think everybody likes animals. I like all kinds of animals but I am especially keen on dogs. As far as I can remember there has been always a dog at home. We have also had some other animals for some time like a hedgehog found on the road near my house, a cat living in our garden or a bird with a broken wing. But all those animals were just found and we never thought about keeping them. We let them go as soon as they could live without our help. I also like animals living in the wild, except snake, frogs and spiders. I have never hurt them but I have always been frightened of them. I like watching films about wild animals, especially the ones in Africa, but I have never seen them in the wild, only in the zoo or in the circus. When 1 was a child I used to go to the circus but now I think animals shouldn't be kept there and trained to do shows. Their home should be in a zoo, if they have proper conditions there or in safari parks. But the wild is best of all. I really like animals, I think they are an important part of our life and people who treat animals in cruel way should be punished. Animals should be protected bylaw more strictly than so far. I think that most people have the same attitude towards animals as me

14. Ochrona dzikich zwierząt.

Most wild animals live in Africa and America. In Africa there are elephants, and lions but elephants may soon become extinct because people kill them for their tusks which are very expensive. It is the same with the rhinoceros - its horn is valuable, too. In Africa theca were also many species of colourful parrots. Now there are fewer and fewer of them. The wildlife in the area of the Amazon is also in danger because people are cutting down the forests known as the "lungs of the world". This not only destroys the habitat of animals but also influences the climate of the world. Burning large areas of forests may cause irreparable lost to the environment and wild animals as happened in the fires in Malaysia in 1997. There is less space for wild animals on the Earth because people cut down forests, build cities, and in this way change tie natural environment. National parks are created to protect wild animals. International laws are introduced to save the animals from the people who hunt and kill them. Some of the animals in danger of extinction are taken to zoological gardens in other countries to be bred and then they are let free in their natural environment again. But ail that is not enough: More and more animals species are in danger of extinction. It is our duty to protect them and do everything to ensure their survival,

15. Mieszkanie w dużym mieście

Some people say: "I would die of boredom if I had to live in the country." Many inhabitants of big cities cannot imagine living anywhere else. What is so special about big cities? White living in a big city people have access to wide range of cultural amenities. There are cinemas, theatres, operas-houses, concert-halls, so it is easy to be up-to-date with the latest cultural events. There are many possibilities to attend good schools, at all levels. Pupils (or their parents) are able to choose a private or state school, both primary and secondary. University students do not have to leave their homes during the time of their studies. They can choose the most appropriate type of school, as there are many of them in big cities. Living with their family in a big University City (in Poland universities are situated only in big cities), students do not have to pay any rent. It helps them to save the money they will need in the future. Students are able to participate in all the cultural events taking place in big cities, which seems important for the ones who care about their education. Also, there are many bookshops and libraries, so it is easier for the students to get all the study materials they need. The natural consequence of studying or graduating from school is looking for and getting a job. It is easier to get a job in a big city. There are many different firms there and they need various specialists. Many professions can be practised only in big cities, and mar, specialists are not needed in small towns or in the country. It is good to live in the city you work in or where you want to work, as not many firms can provide their employees with flats. There are people who believe that the fact of living in the city gives them right to consider themselves as better. It is not true. People have to realise what is their aim and try to take all the advantages the city gives them in gaining it. Living in the city will not help in itself. In many cases it does not matter where you live, but what kind of a person you are.

17. wakacje nad możem. (Holidays at the seaside)

Spending holidays at the seaside in summer makes sense, as there are more things to do than in winter. We can spend our time in many different ways. Because it is usually hot and sunny, we stay whole days on the beach. When we want to take a cool break from the hot sun and air we can swim in the sea. When going to the seaside we must remember some precautions before going into the water. We should not use inflatable mattresses, Canoes or other equipment that should be used only on lakes. But just swimming in the sea can give us a lot of funs, especially when it is windy and there are big waves. Although swimming in rough sea is fun, it is dangerous, too. So it is better to swim only in areas where there is a lifeguard.

Some people like to sunbathe for hours. This may seem a little bit boring but they say it makes them feel relaxed. Some read white they are sunbathing but it is certainly not good for their eyes. Being on the beach gives us a lot of possibilities to have a good time. We can play volleyball and many other games. While playing we move which is the best way of getting a nice sun-tan. We can also build sandcastles. We can go for long walks along the coast but in Poland it is forbidden to walk on the dunes. These are a few of the ways of spending time at the seaside. It all depends upon us if we make ikt a good time or not.

18. Wakacje w gurach. (Holiday in the mountains)

Going to the mountains is one of the most popular ways of spending holidays. We can go there either in summer or in winter and we will come back filled with awe! There is something special about mountains that makes everybody who goes there fall in love with them and want to return as soon as possible. In summer the only thing to do there is to walk and admire the landscape or climb. As there is no snow, you cannot do anything else. But not everybody goes to the mountains to ski, and not everybody can ski. People just like to walk as far as they can and to climb as high as they can. But tourists are not allowed to walk alone. Mountain excursions are very dangerous, so there should be at least two people setting out to the trail. To avoid danger tourists should keep to the tourist routes. While walking you greet people you meet. When we do not feel like walking, we can use a cable railway. It will take us up to the top of the mountain. Sometimes we have to wait a long time in a queue and it may be quicker to climb the mountain by ourselves. Climbing requires good health and fitness. In winter the mountains are more dangerous but still quite a number of people like to spend their holidays there. When there is a lot of snow, avalanches may occur, therefore tourists have to be particularly careful. Most of all they are not allowed to shout.

People go to the mountains in winter to ski rather than to climb so the ski trails are very crowded. The mountaineers organise sledding cavalcades for tourists. Very popular are the ones organised in the evenings when the participants hold torches to light the way. There is always something interesting to do in the mountains, regardless of the time of the year. Some people say that the mountains are most beautiful in winter when everything is covered with snow, others say that the mountains are most beautiful in autumn when leaves change colours from green to golden. Without any doubts you can go to the mountains whenever you want and you will come back neither bored nor disappointed.

19. Opisz znaną ci i dla ciebie ważną osobę. (Describe a person you know well. Explain haw and why she/he is important)

I think that a person who everybody knows well is own mother. My mother is a very nice woman. Mother is medium size and stoutly in waist. I know her because I live with her in one house. She is a nurse and likes her job. She works in hospital in Częstochowa. Her name is Stanisława. She is very nice and polite with her patients. She has got big eyes and short dark hair. Mother knows many people and likes to speak to them. She is interested in music and nature films but my mother is of course most interested in me and my sister. She always rides a bicycle to work. Mother always go shopping after work. She is important to me because She give me a birth and to bring me up. She loves me and help me when I need her. Mother cares about me and always will be with me her heart.

20. leniwa i niechlujna osoba. (Describe a very lazy and untidy person)

Every people has different habits. Between other, are lazy and untidy persons. I know some untidy people, but I think that every people is a little lazy. A man who is a very lazy doesn't like work anywhere and do anything. He never wants clean, wash, walk etc. He prefers to leinig in bed, watching television maybe drinking beer and eating a lot of food. I think that lazy person is not so wrong. I do not like people who are very lazy because their laziness is like infections. I hate untidy persons, because they ugly smells. They do not take a bath, wash their clothes. Simply they do not care about themselves. Other people feel strange in they company. Nobody likes untidy person, that why lazy and untidy persons haven't friends.

21. Zły dzień. (A day when everything went wrong)

Everyone had a day in own live when everything went wrong. My day started early morning when I woke up. Everybody says about a day that "People get up left leg". I had a day when everything went wrong. First I didn't hear alarm-clock, so I was late on my lessons at the university. When I went out it was beautiful day. After lessons, when to canteen, it started raining. In that day I failed exam. Dinner in canteen was tasteless. I returned home and I wanted to wash dishes. I broke two plates and one glass. My computer was broken and I didn't know why. I was very angry and tired in that day. Nothing wasn't funny. At the end day I didn't sleep so I was up and reading a book. I don't want to have a day like this any more.

22. List do ojca. (Letter to your parents)

Dear Parents.

I always wanted to arrive to a foreign country. I am writing letter from New York one of biggest city in the World. In the beginning I wanted to tell that I arrived to New York at 6.00 a.m. Aircraft was a little late, but we landed successfully. I went to hotel and ate breakfast in hotel's bar. I went to downtown to visit this city. It is gigantic city. New York have 16 million people. Warsaw in comparison to New York is a little town. Traffic rules in this city are the best. Many people drive own cars, but others travel by tube, bus or train. There are many skyscrapers, bank and companies. New York is the city where you can find people of all races, skin colours from whole the World. I am very tired now and that's why I must finish my letter. Finally I send you greetings. I will write you next letter in a few days.

Yours son Tom.

23. Zalety i wady bycia sławnym. (Advantages and disadvantages of being famous)

In my opinion there are lot of advantages of this problem, but also some disadvantages. Usually famous people have a lot o money and they can afford to buy everything they want, they also have a lots of friends that they can rely on. They usually travel a lot what is connected with their job, and in this way they can see some interesting places all over the world. They meet other famous people and can converse with them for instance Pope or the other one. On the other hand it isn't so easy to be famous. Famous people must work very hard to keep their position e. q. actors, top models, directors or musicians. They have to keep fit or create new songs or films, which bring them fame. Other advantage is that famous people don't have private life. They often can't walk or shopping alone because they have many fans and when someone recognises them and always wants autograph or touches their idol.

24. O podwyrzkę. (Dear Sir)

I work in Your factory almost 20 years. I am qualified worker and I think that my salary is too low. My family is very large. I have six sons and two daughters and most of them are still at school. My wife died when our last baby was born. It was half year ago. Nowadays I am alone and haven't enough money to bring up all of the children. My salary is too low to feed whole family. I can't rely on the rest of my family because they left our country long time ago and I am not in contact with them. Besides I have to pay the babysitter who take care of our youngest son. I would be very pleased to You if You give me bigger salary. It will help me to better bring up all of my children.

25. Wpływ komputerów na życie człowieka. (How do computers affect our lives ?)

Computer for many ways can affected our lives. One of them is making fun and entertainment. You can play games in virtual reality, listen to the music, view internet pages and even talk via net. Nowadays computer games are very realistic because quality of sound, high speed reality true colour graphic and very good scenario. If you like games you can spend many hours playing them. New games need new equipment it is very expensive hobby, sometimes when you buy a new game and install it on your computer, you will see your hardware is not fast enough. Nowadays world you can see a computer in each sphere our live. In offices, factories, newspapers redaction's work would be impossible without computers. Computers steel enter much more in our live, so if you can use it, you can earn a lot of time. Computers are useful tool in hands of intelligent people.

26. Powiedz co wiesz o życiu znanej osoby. (Say what you know about the life of any famous person)

I don't know any famous person, personally, but I think it's not only the pleasure to be famous. There is also many duty less free time, trying to hide from meddling journalist with don't let for privacy. I think that if you are famous you must have very precision day plan. Especially country heads, prime ministers or kings, knows that. You can become famous in many ways in example: You can be a singer whose records are top selling, or man who ever takes terms and promises (but it is difficult way). You can be also a scandalist who is famous thanks to media, and sometimes he is also admire. The last way I wrote about, in my opinion is the worst, but there are people who want to be famous for ever price.

27. Jesteś niezadowolony z pobytu w chotelu. Napisz list do kierownika. (You have been dissatisfied with you recent stay at hotel. Write a letter of complaint to the manager, give reasons. Make the beginning and ending like those of an ordinary letter)

Dear hotel manager.

This what I saw in your hotel, during last few days, made me upside. Standard of this hotel is very low and is much different of this what I saw in folders. Guarantee given by your workers are not truth. At corridors there is no light in some places. Air condition in rooms does not work properly or even does work at all. What made living in this hotel in hot days impossible. Cleaning persons does not do that they should. Very often they enter room without knocking. Smell and noises passing by cars does not let you rest in day and night. Porters are lazy and sleepy so because of this clients often queue up after coming back from beach. Serving meal conditions are unacceptable. Dishes are dirty and meals taste awfully. I wish you to do something in this cases I wrote about.

Your client.

28 Warsaw's history (chistoria warszawy)

The first documents which mention Warsaw are dated between 1281 and 1321. In the 14th and 15th centuries Warsaw began to assume the role of the capital city of the Duchy of Mazovia, which was incorpored in 1526 into the Polish kingdom. Thanks to its convenient site, Warsaw flourished and became the most important town in Poland by the 16th century. Its central location was the main reason for holding royal elections here.

After Wawel Castle in Cracow burnt down, King Zygmunt III Waza moved his permanent residence, court and the crown headquarters from Cracow to Warsaw in 1596.
During the reign of the Waza dynasty, Warsaw became an important centre of sciences and arts. The city`s development was halted by the Swedish invasion in the middle of the 17th century. During the reign of the Saxon dynasty in the 18th century, Warsaw once again became an important cultural centre.

Warsaw had its second golden age during the reign of the last Polish king, Stanisław August Poniatowski. It was in this time that

the May 3rd Constitution was rattified - the first European bill of human rights, a modern city administration introduced, the arts flourished, and the National Theatre and the Ministry of Education were established . But it was also the period of the partitions. In 1795, after the third partition, Poland was erased from the map of Europe and for the next 123 years its territory was divided between Russia, Prussia and Austria. Warsaw was the focal point of three uprisings against the foreign rule. In 1918, Warsaw became the capital of the reborn Polish state. Development of the city, including the construction of new roads and modern residential districts was short-lived, however, halted by the outbreak of World War II. In 1940 the Nazis created the Warsaw Ghetto. They destroyed it completely in 1943 after killing off the remainder of the Jewish population in the Ghetto Uprising. After the failure of the Warsaw Uprising in 1944 the Nazis destroyed the city, razing over 84 percent of the buldings to the groung.
