In 1804 you take the role of US Consul William Eaton in a North Africa quest to save American hostages in Tripoli. A Scenario that you will not build a army, you will buy it in Alexandria harbor, organize the best army you can to assault Derne at Tripoli.

You should print these instructions since there is no readme.txt file, they will be useful. The rest is in-game instructions.

There are sounds in this zip file, that's why it's a little big. Keep the sounds in the same folder as the scenario, so they play during the scenario.

SITUATION: After the United States won its independence from England the new Stars and Stripes flying from American merchant ships did not carry the same recognition and weight as the British Union Jack.  Even so, the British chose to pay "tribute" to the Barbary pirates to protect their ships.  The reluctance of U.S. President Thomas Jefferson to pay such tributes led to the capture of many American ships and the enslavement of their crews.

Appalled at the news of the enslaved sailors, the city of Philadelphia built the battleship "Philadelphia," which was immediately dispatched to confront the pirates and blockade Tripoli harbor.  Preble, the newly appointed commander of the fleet, sent Lts. Somers and Decatur in fast schooners.  Before they arrived, the USS Philadelphia ran aground on an uncharted reef while chasing a pirate corsair into Tripoli harbor.  Captain Bainbridge and his 300-man crew were captured, placing in the hands of the enemy a ship as big and powerful as any in the American fleet.

YOUR MISSION: As William Eaton and Sgt. Presley O'Bannon, your mission is to conquer Derne and save the Philadelphia crew, to do that you will have to go to Alexandria harbor and convince Hamet Karamanli to help you, we will be in Alexandria Fort. After arrive Alexandria harbor, you have to decide if you want Hamet Karamanli help, his help his expensive but he his important here, some recruits will appear and he has healing powers like William Eaton. Take them always in the front of the battle, they have high lives, don't hurry and take advantage of their healing abilities.

In Alexandria area you will buy men to join your quest, you start with 450 Gold, here some of the soldiers you will find once you select some buildings in Alexandria:

- Luso-Spanish Explorers( Adventurous men that could be found in many places in this age.)

Good: long-ranged; high-power. Bad: expensive.

- Greek Mercenaries( Men in the quest for treasures, could be fund all over the Mediterranean)

Good: cheap; high-armor. Bad: short-ranged, medium-power)

- Turkish Fusiliers( Soldiers from old Turkish expeditions on Arabia)

Good: high-armor. Bad: short-ranged.

- Turkish Musketeers( Turkish desert soldiers that operated all over Libyan Desert)

Good: long-ranged, cheap. Bad: low-armor.

- Arabic Janissaries( Arabic men without nation that know the Desert very well)

Good: long-ranged, cheap, fast. Bad: low-armor, low-power.

- Desert Carabineer( outlaw Desert mounted Arabic men)

Good: fast, high-power. Bad: expensive, low-armor.

- Desert Camel Corps( Arabic Camel mounted men, burglars without nation)

Good: fast, high-armor, long-ranged. Bad: expensive.

- Arabic Camel Warrior( Sword Camel mounted men from many places in north Africa)

Good: fast, high-sight, cheap. Bad: low-power.

- Basilica Cannon( Arabic's Cannons from Alexandria that can be sold)

Good: long-ranged, very high-power. Bad: expensive, low-armor.

After you formed your army, start the walk to Derne, you will find some Tripolitan camps and forces during the Desert cross, play this with very strategy so you arrive Derne with a big army.

Once you take Derne and defeat Yussif Karamanli army and cannons, you will have to hold the city for a few minutes, make defensive positions to some Tripolian army that will appear from outside the City.

You can use Cap. Hull US Battleships help, if you do, they will start bombing Derne and his Harbors Forts. If you use Navy help, Yussif Karamanli army will try instantly to kill all hostages, be careful with the timing, you can't lose half the Americans hostages.

In anytime during the game you can't lose any of your heroes, Consul William Eaton, Sgt. Presley O'Bannon and Hamet Karamanli. Good luck!

NOTES: The best character for playing William Eaton was the CTW French Consul, but since he reveals the entire map I could not use him.

In reality the contracted soldiers only received their tribute in a harbor city of Bomba, outside Derne, but creating this would take all the fun to the game.
