Zdania czasowe Repetytorium
Zdania czasowe odpowiadają na pytania: when? (kiedy), since when (odkąd), how long (jak dlługo) i są wprowadzane następującymi spójnikami:
when - kiedy after - potem gdy
whereas - podczas gdy as - kiedy
while - podczas gdy as soon as - skoro tylko
till - dopóki as long as - tak długo jak
until - dopóki since - od,.od kiedy
by the time - do czasu kiedy before - zanim once - z chwilą, gdy

Po spójnikach: when, before, as soon as, as long as, till, until,once mówiąc o przyszłości nie używmy czasów Future, lecz odpowiednich czasów Present, np.: |
We will go to the Z00 when we have time.
Pójdziemy do Z00, kiedy będziemy mieli czas.
You must wait till (until) John comes.
Musisz poczekać aż John przyjdzie.
When I have been in this country for several years, l'll be able to write a book about it.
Kiedy już będę w tym kraju przez kilka lat, będę mógł napisać o nim książkę.
I will read the paper as soon as I get it.
Przeczytam gazetę, skoro tylko ją dostanę.
John will not go away before he has seen you.
John nie odejdzie, zanim cię nie zobaczy.
Gdy mówimy, że jedna czynność przeszła nastąpiła w czasie, gdy druga się odbywała, używamy czasów Simple Past i Past Continuous, np.:
When I came, my sister was pIaying wjth her little daughter.
Kiedy przyszedłem, moja siostra bawiła się ze swoją małą córeczką.
Natomiast gdy mówimy, że obie czynności przeszłe odbywały się równocześnie, używamy w obu zdaniach Past Continuous i łączymy je spójnikiem while, np. :
While we were talking, our friends were playing cards.
Kiedy rozmawialiśmy, nasi znajomi grali w karty.
Gdy chcemy podkreślić uprzedniość jednej czynności przeszłej wobec drugiej czynności przeszłej, używamy niekiedy czasu Past Perfect, np.:
We had finished our dinner before Joh arrived.
John arrived when we had finished dinner.
Skończyliśmy obiad, zanim John przybył.
It won't work as soon as you take any pictures.
You'll find it easier than writing by hand before it's recording a programme.
A red light will come on while you wind it up.
Please leave your message after it has cooled down.
You'll have to take the lens cap off when you get used to the keys.
I'll put it back in the cupboard until you hear the tone.

The use of tenses is different from Polish after certain conjunctions.
In Temporal Clauses

W e express simple futurity by Future:
I shall be in London in May. Bede w Londynie w maju.
I shall visit the British Mu- seum.
The same sentence used as a Temporal Clause requires Simple Present:
When I am in London in May, I shall visit the British Mu- seum. Gdy b~de w Londynie w majude zwiedzac Muzeum Brytyjskie.
Future Continuous changes to Present Continuous when it is used in a Temporal Clause:
