either / neither
Ex: He can afford to buy either car. = Îsi poate permite sa cumpere oricare din cele doua masini.
He can afford to buy neither car. = Nu-si poate permite sa 21421k102v cumpere nici una din cele doua masini.
v Either este afirmativ
Either this week or next would siut me. Either (of them) = Mi-ar conveni fie saptamâna aceasta, fie urmatoarea. Oricare (dintre ele)
v Neither este negativ
Neither this week nor next would siut me. Neither of them is O.K. = Nu mi-ar conveni nici saptamâna aceasta, nici urmatoarea. Nu-mi convine nici una.
Atentie!!!
Daca verbul este la forma negativa, se foloseste either pentru a evita dubla negatie.
I'm not free either tomorrow or the day after. = Nu sunt liber nici mâine, nici poimâine.
Either îl înlocuieste pe too (de asemenea) pentru a se traduce prin nici.
I'm not free tomorrow and I'm not free the day after either. = Nu sunt liber mâine si nu sunt liber nici poimâine.
Observatii:
Se începe totdeauna cu either / neither, care apoi sunt reluate prin or / nor.
Either you phone or you write or you got o see them. = Ori îi suni, ori le scrii, ori te duci la ei.
