Onscreen Elements

When you launch FreeHand, you see various FreeHand onscreen elements called panels, inspectors, and toolbars. These elements control different aspects of the program. They can be closed, opened, resized, or moved around the screen to suit your own work habits.

TIP



FreeHand remembers the layou 18318u2015s t of the onscreen elements when you quit the program. The next time you open FreeHand, the panels are arranged in the same position.

Layers panel

The Layers panel (Window > Panel > Layers) allows you to control the order in which objects appear onscreen . (For more information on the Layers panel, see Chapter 12 Layers and Layering

Swatches panel

The Swatches panel (Window > Panel > Swatches)lets you store colors and apply them to objects . (For more information on the Swatches panel, see Chapter 13 Working in Color

Color Mixer panel

The Color Mixer panel (Window > Panel > Color Mixer)allows you to define colors according to four different modes: CMYK, RGB, HLS, and the system color picker . (For more information on the Color Mixer panel, see Chapter 13 Working in Color

Tints panel

The Tints panel (Window > Panel > Tints)lets you create tints of colors and apply them to objects . (For more information on the Tints panel, see Chapter 13 Working in Color

Styles panel

The Styles panel (Window > Panel > Styles) lets you store the appearance of graphics and text as styles that can be easily reapplied to other objects . (For more information on the Styles panel, see Chapter 21 Styles

Halftones panel

The Halftones panel (Window > Panel > Halftones) is used to set custom screens for objects such as tints, gradients, blends, and scanned images . (For more information on the Halftones panel, see Chapter 31 Advanced Printing

Transform panel

The Transform panel (Window > Panel > Transform) allows you to move, rotate, scale, skew, or reflect objects by numerical input . (For more information on the Transform panel, see Chapter 10 Move and Transform

Navigation panel

The Navigation panel (Window > Panel > Navigation) is used to add navigational elements and Flash commands to FreeHand documents . (For more information on the Navigation panel, see Chapter 29 Flash Animations

Align panel

The Align panel (Window > Panel > Align) is used to align or distribute selected objects on their sides, tops, bottoms, and, centers . (For more information on the Align panel, see Chapter 10 Move and Transform

Find & Replace Graphics panel

The Find & Replace Graphics panel (Edit > Find & Replace > Graphics) is used to make changes to many objects in a document at the same time. (For more information on the Find and Replace Graphics panel, see Chapter 23 Automating FreeHand

TIP

Although the Find and Replace Graphics panel has tabs, it cannot be grouped with any of the other tabbed panels. Also, the two tabs of the panel cannot be separated into two different panels.

Find Text panel

The Find Text panel (Edit > Find & Replace > Graphics) is used to make changes to all the text in a document . (For more information on the Find Text panel, see Chapter 19 Text Tools

Object inspector

The Object inspector (Window > Inspector > Object) lets you set specific attributes for selected objects . The attributes change depending on the object selected. (The Object inspector is covered in chapters and

Fill inspector

The Fill inspector (Window > Inspector > Fill) is used to set the type of fill applied inside objects . There are eight different types of fills that include a basic color fill or a gradient that changes from one color to another. (For more information on the Fill inspector, see Chapter 14 Fills

Stroke inspector

The Stroke inspector (Window > Inspector > Stroke) is used to set the type of stroke applied to objects . There are five different types of strokes that include a basic color stroke or a brush stroke that wraps artwork around an object.
