Most likely you will always want to print a composite image of your file This is an image that combines all the colors together into one image. However, if you want you can print separations. That gives you a individual print for each of the ink colors that are used to create the file
To set the basic separations options:
If your illustration has color in it, choose Composite or Separations.
TIP
You can print to separations to make sure you have set your document up properly for different color plates. Each piece of paper that is printed counts as a color plate in your document. Too many plates means you have probably defined too many spot colors.
