Instrument Editor - Quick Feature Index

These features are covered in depth in the 'Reference' section of the users manual. To get started quickly, it is essential to see these features in action and to use them for full comprehension of how they work. The online quick tutorials have brief explanations of how to use them and avi screencam examples.

How to run the Tutorials (two different ways to start the tu 23523c222x torials):

Insert the GigaSampler CD-ROM in your computers CD-ROM Drive

Open up the Instrument Editor and go to the Help Menu.

Select "Run Tutorial"

or:

Insert the GigaSampler CD-ROM in your computers CD-ROM Drive

Double Click on the My Computer Icon in the desktop

Double Click on the CD-ROM Icon

Double Click on Tutorial.hlp

Wizard Tool - The Wizard Tool walks you through the automatic building of a complex instrument. When designing a complex instrument, you need to group the samples in directories to match the parameters you plan to use in the instrument such as velocity splits, variations and layers. After these directories of samples are imported into the Instrument Editor, you can use the Wizard tool to automatically map out the samples by unity note, velocity split and dimension. The wizard is best consecutive samples that all have the same set of parameters.

Drag & Drop Mapping - For mapping simple instruments or complex drum sets, Drag & Drop mapping is a very intuitive way to create instruments. You can also start with the Wizard tool and add extra non-consecutive or non-melodic samples with the drag & drop method. Samples are easily assigned by selecting the region/s, velocity split/s, and dimension split/s you want to map a sample to and dragging the sample from the wave pool to the velocity map.

Layering & Crossfade Layering - The GigaSampler supports up to 2 stereo or 4 mono layers. That allows 4 channels of sample accurate sample playback. Each layer can have it's own attenuation control and panning bias. With layering, you have 2 stereo or 4 mono samples playback simultaneously on the same region. You can also crossfade from one layer to another using a MIDI controller to control the crossfade.

Release Triggers - The GigaSampler supports very powerful release triggers. The release trigger allows a sample to be triggered as you let up on a key. A release trigger has the same set of parameters of a note-on sample. By controlling the Amp Envelope and the 'Release Trigger Decay' Time, the release trigger can be used for both staccato quick releases or for longer crossfade releases.

Sub Mixing - You can individually adjust the attenuation level of every sample/sub-region used in a GigaSampler instrument. You can also control the attenuation of each sample with an assigned MIDI controller. That gives the ability to control the levels of each sound of an entire drum set in real-time on a single MIDI channel. There is also a 6dB boost available for each sample.

Resonant Filters - Each and every sample/sub-region in an instrument (up to 4064) can have it's own separate filter settings. They can be edited one at a time in the Case Properties window or as a group with the Drag Tools.

Drag Tool Editing - The drag tools make the editing of hundreds and thousands of samples/sub-regions quick and intuitive. Many of the parameters in the Case Edit window can be visually edited in the Region Map with the Drag Tools. To grasp how these tools work, it is essential to run the screencams in the tutorial and see them in action and to use them.

Region Map - The region map gives you a flexible and quick way to create, move, edit and stretch regions. A region can be as small as a single note or take up the whole keyboard. Within each region is a number of sub-regions (up to 32) A Sub-Region can be a Stereo split, Velocity split or a Dimension split. Each sub-region can have it's own separate sample. Many of the parameters in the Case Edit window can be done in the region map.

Dimensions - A region can have up to 5 dimensions. Dimensions control the playback of samples with various MIDI controllers. Stereo counts as 1 dimension.

Sample Editing - The Instrument Editor allows you to use a standard Windows audio editor to edit the samples of an instrument. Sample Wrench XE is included as part of the GigaSampler package for those who need an audio editor. Choosing to edit a sample will launch the audio editor you have chosen in the preferences page with that sample opened up and ready for editing.
